The Big Waste

On the show last night, The Big Waste on Food Network they mentioned a few places that people can go and get discarded food that stores cannot sell, but is still good food. Can you please let me know what and where they are? I am in California. Also, is there someplace that I can volunteer to help get some of the food that is thrown out and bring it to people who cannot afford to purchase it in a grocery store? Thank you. Jan
