Diets in Review Question

I need to know how to eat horrible food 5x a day for months? What is the key to doing this?

Annie asked this question Mar 28th, 2011 11:04 am

I started today and I am shocked at how horrible this food really is! How can anybody choke down 5 of these meals per day. Like the other reader said the oatmeal was dreadful. I spent $160 on these meal replacements and I want and need this to work REALLY badly but how realistic is it that I have to force myself to do something so unpleasant for months? Reading these comments makes me wonder how valid they are. Are all of you true customers or are you salespeople for MediFast? I need to know the key to this system. Do many people just find a couple of items that are tolerable and stick to them?

My wife and I lost a lot of weight on the program (me 90 lbs, she 68), and have kept it off for a year. We're now coaching people through the program, and almost everyone ends up with a set of foods they stick with. I loved the oatmeal, my wife hated it. The best thing was how fast we got through the weight loss. I was (and still am) frankly willing to eat less-than-favorite foods in order to get my health back.

We resisted being health coaches for the company for a while, but now that we're doing it, seeing friends and others lose weight fast and safely, I have to say I'm thoroughly pleased.

I think the real question isn't 'does this taste good?', but 'what do I have to do to be thin?'. How badly do you want to be thin? If you think of being overweight as a prison, then fighting your way out is worth the effort. I got a little tired of the food after 6 months, but going from size 46 pants to size 34 was worth every single bite.

So here is the trick, the bars and the shakes. I have been on for only 5 days and have tried a few of the things but the lady who introduce it to me told me she only drinks the shakes and eats the bars because its the only thing she likes. The beauty, you can do that! So do it! If you only like a couple items, eat only those items. This is totally allowed by the diet. And if you try something you don't like, as long as you have only tried one out of the box you can send it back and get something else. I recommend the peanut butter or chocolate CRUNCH bars, and the dutch chocolate 55 shake and the strawberry is pretty good too. They don't have the awful diet after taste. P.S. I have lost 5 pounds in 4 days so I decided I am going to make it work too...but only by eating what I like!

I just started today and I too am shocked at how disgusting the food is so far. I've tried the eggs, the chili, and the soy ranch chips. I will stick with it for at least the two weeks I paid for and just hope that it begins to taste better to me. Everyone said the chili was awesome but they LIED. I hope I can stick to it.

Success!

True. The oatmeal tasted like cardboard, but it got better/go figure ..but the Dutch Choc. shake is good in your blender or shaken. The Tropical Fruit punch, the Choc. crunch bars, the choc. pudding are all good. The brownie you have to cook alot longer than stated, but is good, the eggs need to be cooked on the stove(I never tried the microwave), the hot choc. is tasty, Beef stew, cheese puffs & pretzels...ALL of these are good choices. I would suggest adding some hot sauce or pepper to the soups. I added cinnamon to the oatmeal, and occasionally a sweet-n-low(not each time, though). Hope this helps.

It's really not that bad. Yeah, it's not fried chicken and mashed potatoes, but I do just hte pre-mixed chocolate shakes every day and have lost a ton since January 8th! Stick with it and try everythign. You'll find something you like. Try the choc pudding or the pre-mixed. they're my faves!

I am the pickiest eater on the planet and I can tolerate this diet. I even really like some of it, particularly the dutch chocolate shakes, the peanut butter bars, and the brownies. I thought the soups were disgusting and I hate eggs and oatmeal so I didn't even try those. But try and try until you find something you like. I'm sure you will find at least 6 things you can tolerate well. Good luck!!!

oatmeal- add a pinch of salt and microwave after adding hot water- helps texture. cold "drinks"-AVOID at all costs- no help for them; Eggs, let the water soak for a while, but still not great; Soups- i double the water and add a boullion cube. Shakes- Ice cold water or blended w/ ice. If you have tried the OTC protein shakes, these are comparable in taste. Science shows it takes at least 5 exposures for your taste to adjust, Stick to it. This works. just dont give up.

I have found that making the hot food on the stove instead of in the microwave makes it one hundred times better. Before I discovered this I was almost vomiting each time I tried to force the food down, now I'm finding that I'm looking forward to meal time!

Day 10 and I have lost 8lbs.. It could be a lot worse. I was 25 lbs over weight and I am down 8 so far. The food gets better as you learn what consistencies are best.. The bars are easy and convenient. you can season things.. If you are very over weight and your health is in danger. This is a fast and safe way to lose weight.. I am not yet a spokes person but I tell you if this continues the way it is I soon will be!!!!! To your heath!!!!

Hi - I have been on for 12 weeks and am now just 7 lbs from goal--so it has worked for me. Some tips - choc. shake In the blender with ice or mix and refrigerate before drinking - ie very cold and very weil blended. If that is not possible, I have also added it to coffee for a mocha drink.
Be careful to read and follow the mixing instructions. The amount of liquid added varies and makes a difference.
Check out some of the medifast recipes on line- especially for the products you don't like to use up your remaining packages. For example I found one for Tomato cheese sandwich using the Tomato soup. For porridge - really filling btw, I often add 1/4 c. of egg white and make pancakes!

I hated the oatmeal too but then I saw on the side of the box that you can add some cinnamon, baking powder, sugar substitute and water and bake it! Its not exactly muffin texture, but I now LOVE all the oatmeal flavors as long as I bake them!

Some of the foods are definitely better than the others. I like the shakes best if blended with ice and protein powder. I bought a personal blender at Amazon for $15 and that really helped. The maintenance bars are the best, although they have 50% more calories. I also like the pudding. The Puffs are good if you want quantity, but it feels like you are eating air. Add salsa to the chili; it makes a difference. I also like the chicken with wild rice soup. Don't be afraid to supplement with food like celery and bell peppers; that really helps. Finally, drink more water than they suggest. It makes a huge difference. I hope this is helpful!

I am just one week in and lost 9.8 lbs. I understand that the first week is the quickest amount of weight lost.

I am a great cook and love to eat great-tasting food so this is absolutely like walking on broken glass.

I like the bars the best and will most likely only buy them in the future. I am looking forward to transition back to regular food. Don't think me strange when I say I want a regular, solid bowel movement.

Type II diabetic and 13 years on BP medication. I take 5 BP meds and two for diabetes. Those meds are destroying my kidneys and liver and I know it. I see other people with diabetes with the purple lower legs and realize that they are on their way to amputation in just a few years. When I first developed diabetes it affected my sight. I didn't know it was diabetes but in two short weeks I couldn't read the highway signs. I pulled off the road and curled up on my car seat and cried because I thought I was going blind. My eye doctor told me to get checked for diabetes. I ended up in the ER a day later and spent 4 days in intensive care.

I look forward to my doctor reducing or even eliminating my meds. In one week my home test sugar levels are below 100 and my BP is normalizing 120's over 80's. We have been adding BP meds one by one over 13 years. My cardiologist was considering another med because I couldn't maintain below 150's over 100.

One week and my numbers are lining up. If medifast meals are discovered to be made from POOP I will eat them.

I am going to be healthy again!!! I have had years of eating all the junk food and have been able to eat gourmet quality food over the past 10-15 years. I have had my fun with food. I will pay the piper the rest of my life if I have to; I already danced to the music. I will enjoy my health for my remaining time on this planet. I am 51 and hope to see upper 90's and enjoy the years.

Suck it up, the food is horrid in taste. Work your way towards transition. Then eat to live instead of living to eat!

Be strong!!!!
