Recipes

Southwestern Salad with Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette

Shrimp Jambalaya

This is one of Brandi's personal favorites, that was modified to fit her vegetarian diet. It's bursting with the fresh flavor of a homemade vinaigrette made of lime and cilantro, and includes crisp greens, corn, tomatoes, peppers and hearty black beans.

Black Bean Mushroom Quesadillas

Black Bean Mushroom Quesadillas

This recipe comes from Brandi's kitchen, and is another modification for vegetarian week. This is a quick and economical meal to prepare, as you can use any leftover vegetables from throughout the week.

Nutrient Rich Foods

Nutrient dense/rich foods are foods that provide tons of vitamins and minerals with a low amount of calories. The opposite to nutrient dense are empty calories. Empty calories provide tons of calories with little to no nutritional value/nutrients. These foods are the key to healthy eating, weight loss, and maintenance. Incorporate nutrient rich foods into your diet by eating whole grains, plenty of fruits and veggies, and choose lower-fat dairy products.

Matt’s Fitness Tip

Matt

Bikini Belly for Summer
Many people often have the misconception that doing hundreds of crunches will get that flat, sexy stomach. Not true, crunches do however work the core endurance and will obviously help. Fat tissue and muscle tissue are two different types of tissue and you need to burn the fat tissue in order to achieve the so called “Bikini Belly.” To achieve that beach-toned tummy, you should do:

  1. Regular cardio exercise (step it up a little bit though)
  2. Strength training for entire body (not just abs)
  3. Healthy, Low Calorie Diet
