Tired of listening to your colleagues complain about their weight and then devour the pastry tray leftover from the morning's staff meeting? Help is on the way!

The Weight Watchers At Work program wants to make your workplace healthier by offering you and your company all of the success of the Weight Watchers program right from your own office.

More than 10,000 corporations in the U.S. have participated in At Work meetings. The massive number of participating companies speaks to the effectiveness of the Weight Watchers' program and the value of transforming your workplace into a supportive and healthy environment to lose weight.

The Weight Watchers At Work program is a weight loss management plan that encourages employees to eat healthier using the Weight Watchers 360 program, moving more, and becoming more mindful and smarter about food choices. It includes the same elements as any Weight Watchers' plan including weekly meetings, food plans and confidential weigh-ins.

In order to implement the Weight Watchers At Work program in your office:

  • First contact your human resources department to receive approval
  • Second, find a location to serve as your meeting site, get 20 of your colleagues involved and then give Weight Watchers a call to get started.

The cost of the program may also be reimbursable from FSAs and other pre-tax accounts. While companies pick up part of the tab, Weight Watchers At Work participants will have to pay a portion of the program's fee.

DIET and NUTRITION

Weight Watchers At Work shows you and your colleagues how to use Weight Watchers 360 right at the office. Each food has a PointsPlus value so that you can stay within your daily target for weight loss.

The program will specifically address workplace eating challenges such as staff lunches, vending machines, the office candy or cookie jar and other workplace calorie hot-spots. Practical tips and tools will be provided for how to deal with diet challenges.

Overall, the plan emphasizes a diet rich in vegetables, lean proteins, low-fat dairy, some fruit and modest amounts of fat.

No food is off-limits on the Weight Watchers At Work plan, you just have to calculate how its PointsPlus value can factor into your daily allotment.

EXERCISE

Since sitting at office desks behind computers for hours and hours five days a week is a big part of our society's weight problem, the Weight Watchers at Work program encourages moving more while at work.

Whether it's taking a walk at lunch, parking your car at the far end of the lot, getting up to speak to a colleague rather than emailing them, or taking the stairs rather than the elevator, each participant is strongly recommended to move more throughout the day.

In addition, participants are encouraged to support each other in their physical activity goals by engaging in these activities together such as taking a lunch-hour walk or heading to the gym with one another after work.

CONCLUSION

The Weight Watchers At Work program encourages healthy eating and lifestyle behaviors in the workplace. Targeting actions in the workplace that facilitate weight gain like overeating, access to vending machines and a sedentary workday, Weight Watchers At Work teaches employees the tools they need to lose weight in the workplace through its weekly meetings, meal plans and weigh-ins.

If you are interested in bringing the program to your company, talk to your human resources director.

Eight months ago my workplace announced they were beginning this program. Having struggled with my weight for years and getting pressure from my physician to lose weight for my health, I joined up. I figured I would lose 15 or 20 pounds and that would be it. I was very skeptical after the first meeting. That was 42 pounds ago. The out-of-pocket expense is minimal and this program WORKS!

I am currently using the point system and after trying everything else first , I found it is not only less ouot of pocket but makes more sence as it is everyday food that you would eat. (not prepackaged) I have lost over 100 lbs in the past yr. and 78 was at WW with points. Don't laugh it works and the time seems to fly by...honest I am the average joe.
