BACKGROUND Start the Diet Now Advertisement

The Biggest Loser, fast approaching its twelfth season, has inspired many people to do something about their weight and many products have been created to help with that, not the least of which is a series of cookbooks.

On March 15, 2011 The Biggest Loser: Flavors of the World Cookbook will release. This cookbook is authored by Chef Devin Alexander with members of the Biggest Loser cast and Melissa Roberson. Everything from meals, snacks and desserts is included in this book, all inspired by an international array of flavors and ethnic cuisine. Recipes will include foods from around the world so you can create the exotic fare that you crave from restaurants in your own home.

Chef Devin is herself a weight loss success story, having kept off 70 pounds for more than 20 years. She knows all too well the desire to enjoy the foods you crave and because of this she's become a master of using healthy, alternative ingredients that let you enjoy the tacos, brownies and pizza you never thought you'd be able to have again.

Luckily these versions of your international favorites won’t include all the fat and calories that you will get at a restaurant. The book talks about how a typical American-Indian dish can have 4500mg sodium. To put that in perspective, we're not supposed to consume more than 1500mg in a day. In creating Flavors of the World, Alexander had to follow the strict nutritional guidelines set forth by The Biggest Loser. That means, low-calorie, low-fat, no processed ingredients like sugar, low-sodium and keeping it clean.

The Biggest Loser: Flavors of the World Cookbook offers more than 75 recipes that will fit into a healthy, clean-eating lifestyle without sacrificing an ounce of flavor. In fact, season 11 contestant Jay says that in following The Biggest Loser diet he "has tastebuds again."

Cooking these dishes at home will save you money, as well as pounds and inches. You will find classics in the areas of Asian dishes, Mexican favorites and Italian meals as well as others. This cookbook also includes an overview of the Biggest Loser food plan for reference.

EXERCISE

The Biggest Loser Flavors of the World Cookbook does share a number of insights into living the Biggest Loser lifestyle. However, as a cookbook, the primary focus is on food and little guidance is provided regarding a fitness regimen.

A few pages in chapter two of Flavors of the World help you understand counting calories and how that translates into monitoring the caloric burn of your workouts. You'll learn about Biggest Loser's FITTE approach, which helps you plan the Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type and Enjoyment of your workouts.

Biggest Loser has a vast fitness brand and their workout DVDs, video games and home gym equipment can help you get in shape like a "Loser."

CONCLUSION

Too often we think a "diet" or healthy lifestyle is all about sacrifice. But if we've learned anything from Biggest Loser, you've been sacrificing all along. Eating unhealthy, processed junk food keeps you from enjoying the natural flavors that food offers when it's prepared in a way that complements its intended purpose. The Flavors of the World Cookbook from Biggest Loser will open your palate to a variety of Asian, Mexican and Italian foods that you thought were only available in restaurants. Now, you can prepare them at home for a fraction of the calories and feel good about what you're eating (or serving!).

Thanks to Chef Devin Alexander and the Biggest Loser family, you don't have to give up anything to reach your weight loss goals.
