BACKGROUND Start the Diet Now Advertisement

Grapes may be small but when it comes to health, they pack a powerful punch.

Resveratrol is a kind of antioxidant known as a flavonoid that is naturally found in grape skin and consequently red wine. Resveratrol has been linked to reducing risk of heart disease by lowering the amount of bad cholesterol and preventing blood clots. There has also been some research to suggest that resveratrol might play a role in reducing risk of diabetes and obesity, two other known risk factors for heart disease. In addition, recent research has suggested that it might extend life span since resveratrol may play an instrumental role in preventing age-related illnesses like cancer and degenerative diseases.

According to the Mayo Clinic, even though resveratrol can be purchased in supplements, not enough is known yet about this concentrated form of the heart-healthy antioxidant so a safe or suggested dosage cannot be recommended.

Grapes which are used to make both red and white wine naturally contain resveratrol but because red wine's fermentation process is longer, it has more of the antioxidant than white wine. Other foods that contain resveratrol are grape juice, peanuts, cranberries and blueberries.

CONCLUSION

Thanks to Dr. Oz extolling the benefits of resveratrol on health and aging, and a recent report on CBS 60 Minutes, this antioxidant is gaining mass popularity as health devotees start to enjoy red wine more, pop resveratrol supplements and swap grape juice for their morning OJ.

While this powerful antioxidant has been shown to have many health benefits, especially in relation to the heart, there are no specific recommendations for how much resveratrol you should consume each day. But by munching more red grapes or having the occasional glass of red wine with dinner, you can take solace in knowing that you're doing something positive for your health.

Resveratrol is a great supplement to add to any dietary routine. I will add a word of caution, DO NOT buy from any site promoting or offering a free trial. You are setting yourself up for a VERY expensive monthly refill that is almost impossible to cancel--READ THE FINE PRINT. Avoid all sites that have images of Dr. Oz, Oprah or any news company logos like CNN or 60 Minutes. These parties DO NOT endorse any specific Resveratrol Product or brand but do support the use of Resveratrol Supplements.

Purchase from legitimate companies. I personally purchase from ResJuve and I have been very happy with them. Their product includes Resveratrol & Acai Berry--for me, the best of both worlds.

I love resveratrol.

I recently heard about it from the site http://www.startresveratrol.com and ordered it from the rezxtra store. It has worked wonders for me. I have lost 15 pounds and feel really healthy overall. I suggest it to all of my friends.
