Raspberry Ketone

A fat-burning supplement endorsed by Dr. Oz.

QUICK FACTS Start the Diet Now Advertisement
  • Established: 1965 placed on the generally recognized as safe list by FDA
  • Founder: None – natural supplement produced by several manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies
  • Accessibility: Online or at some natural health food stores
  • Diet Type: Diet supplement
  • Gender: Male and Female
BACKGROUND

Raspberry ketone is a compound used as a diet supplement for its fat burning properties, which include increasing the body's release of norepinepherine and adiponectin. Increasing norepinepherine raises the body's temperature, and therefor helps burn calories and increase metabolism. Increasing the production of adiponectin, a hormone that lowers glucose levels, may play a role preventing calories to be stored as glycogen. People who suffer from obesity typically have lower levels of adiponectin, which is why raspberry ketone is said to "trick the body into thinking it's thin."

Since the amount of natural ketone found natually in raspberries is very low, raspberry ketone is usually synthesized. Naturally extracted ketone can be extremely expensive.

Raspberry ketone gained considerable attention in February of 2012, when the supplement was recommended on an episode of the Dr. Oz Show.

Dr. Sarah G. Khan Weighs in on Raspberry Ketone

PRO
  • Endorsed by Dr. Oz
  • Synthetic ketone is relatively inexpensive
  • Generally recognized as safe by the USDA

CON
  • Unclear how long it can be used safely
  • May not be suitable for people with diabetes
  • May not be suitable for people with high blood pressure
  • May have negative interactions with antidepressants
  • Weight loss benefits may only last while the supplement is being taken
DIET and NUTRITION

Regular exercise is recommended while taking this supplement, however it is not associated with a specific workout.

EXERCISE

For best results, raspberry ketone should taken in combination with a healthy diet, however there are no specific diet recommendations associated with this supplement.

ADMINISTRATION

Take 100 milligrams of raspberry ketone with breakfast, or increase the dosage by adding another 100 milligrams at lunch.

CONCLUSION

Raspberry ketone can speed the metabolism to aid in weight loss, but it's important to combine it with regular exercise and a calorie controlled diet. Some people find this supplement helps them get over a weight loss plateau. Like other supplements that raise body temperature, raspberry ketone may only be effective temporarily. Any weight loss achieved will require a healthy maintenance plan.

If you have any medical conditions, it's best to talk with your doctor before taking this diet supplement.

I felt depressed when my old clothes no longer fit me. In an effort to address my depression, I decided to look for an effective diet supplement and one of the products that I can say really works is the Raspberry Ultra Drops. With Raspberry Ultra Drops, my energy is always up, letting me to finish the tasks at hand. It also helped me get rid of the extra pounds without exerting too much effort.

It always AMAZES me when people say they are leery of NATURAL supplements, but hold fast to POISONOUS meds (ie: the person who said she is on HBP and depression meds). The SIDE EFFECTS of medications are MANY. For HBP, they can go on to cause SEVERE kidney damage...DEPRESSION meds can cause SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, mess up your liver, etc. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE people...STOP blindly having confidence in your doctors and the pharmaceutical companies who simply may not have your best interest at heart! I am an ONCOLOGY RN of 17years and have a son with advanced colon cancer...after CHEMO (his choie to do chemo) only SPREAD the cancer on THREE different occasions, and HE decided to stop ALL conventional medicine and go with ALL NATURAL SUPPLEMENTS....since doing this, he HAS NOT had ANY disease spread and is living a better life, although he's still SUFFERING from he side effects of the chemo and radiation. He has NOT SUFFERED ONCE from the side effects of NATURAL SUPPLEMENTS! PLEASE...take the time to be informed!!! just because something is prescribed doesn't make it good for you!!! You can do a google search of "medicines taken off the market" or "dangerous prescription". KNOWLEGE IS POWER!!! BTW...I like the Raspberry Ketone pills...it curbs my appetite. Sorry for the rant, but as a nurse, this lack of knowledge pains me.

I just started taking RK a couple of weeks ago and have not noticed any change on 200 mg each morning..I also don't notice any reduction in my appetite. I am on a strict diet and am actually underweight, but i was hoping it would help me lose the last few stubborn pounds, but so far no luck

Does raspberry ketone interfere with blood pressure? Re: taking PURE RASPBERRY KETONE supplement (100mg 1-2x's daily) Why would pure raspberry ketones interfere with blood pressure and low dose antidepressant? It is supposed to be NATURAL, and DERIVED FROM RASPBERRIES. We are not told to avoid raspberries when on these products. I only ask becuz I'm dying to try it! I need to loose 50lbs- which if I could, would probably absolve the need for BP med AND antidepressant! Please respond/help. (Thank you)

I really love this supplement; prior to taking it, I'd lost almost 35 pounds from changing my diet and excercising with a trainer. I did this slowly over a 3 year period, but never managed to get my body under 200 pounds. After introducing this supplement to my diet, I've been able to lose more weight and get under 200 pounds. Coming from 245...I'm super pleased! This is a great product!

Well . I am taking a low dose of an anti-depressant and also bloodpressure meds.....I have been taking 100 ml of the Raspberry Ketone at about 11AM and then eating a protien lunch. The RK does reduce my appetite considerably. I seem to have no noticeable side effects. I know this is a short term fix. I think it is a great "kick start" to getting out of the habit of overeating. It is a real motivator to clean the house as well. I'm not sure if that is a side effect or a benefit of RK.... Just sayin

I agree with Carolyn, In fact Dr Oz specified that since it is all natural it did not have side effects...glad I saw this before ordering.

I am leary of natural vitamins. Sounded too good to be true. I do have medicine for high blood pressure, and antidepressants. I would not want anything to interfer with either. You are the only one that mentioned if may interfere with both. Why would it interfere with either if it is just rasberry's.
