Newtopia is a personalized approach to weight loss and healthy living that is based on your DNA. Newtopia believes that everyone is unique and the only way to design a plan that is specific to your needs is to analyze your DNA. The program starts with you taking a simple saliva swab and mailing it in for analysis. You also have a one on one counseling session with your assigned Newtopia coach to guide you through the program. This assigned coach will help you set your goals and go over your DNA results once they are received. Your coach works with you each step of the way to make the most of the program and help you reach your goals. Upon starting the Newtopia program, you will gain access to their online portal which tracks your calories and exercise activities. Your coach will inform your of your daily calorie count and walks you through recording your meals and snacks. The portal is very user friendly and offers users a complete picture of their nutrition.
The three elements of the program that make it unique include the DNA analysis, the well-being element and the Newtopia PED. The DNA analysis will tell you how your body may respond to specific foods so that you can make the right choices. The well-being aspect of the program helps you examine your mental relationship with food and gets to some of the root problems that may be causing your weight gain. On a regular basis you will answer questions relating to your levels of confidence, productivity, energy and attractiveness. The Newtopia program also includes a Newtopia PED which is a wireless pedometer that you place on your shoe. One of the first things you will do before getting started with the Newtopia program is the DNA test. Once the results of that are received by your personal coach, they can create a proper diet and exercise program. You are given a calorie goal for each day depending on your current weight and goals. The food section of the portal where you record your meals offers breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack section. Each day you will see a recipe or meal recommendation which you can use, or add your own foods. Like most programs, skipping meals and consuming empty calories are discouraged. Newtopia focuses on exercise as an important part of the program. Each day along with your PED step count breakdown, you are given a cardio and strength training workout depending on the day. None of the exercises are terribly hard and you work at your own pace. Your coach will enter your exercise goals into the system and go over your exercise plan with you. For those that are just starting to implement more movement, your cardio exercise will most likely be walking. Below is a reflection of a sample workout day on the Newtopia program:
- Cardio – Moderate intensity walking for 25 minutes
- Strength training – 2 sets of each: 10 squats with forward arm raise holding a medicine ball; 10 alternating medicine ball arm curls; 12 forward lunges; 2 sets of downward facing dog
