ChaLEAN

BACKGROUND

ChaLEAN Extreme is a DVD workout system designed by fitness guru Chalene Johnson. Johnson, who is also the creator of Turbo Jam, another popular at-home exercise program, has a strong background in martial arts, dance, aerobics and physical training.

In ChaLEAN Extreme, she has created a three-phase fitness program that is focused on resistance training that is designed to create a long, lean physique. Each of the 15 workouts is built around the ChaLEAN mantra of Muscle. Burns. Fat.

The DVD set also comes with support tools like a fat-burning food guide, a motivating audio CD, a healthy eats and kitchen makeover DVD, a resistance band and a set of body-fat calipers.

While the ChaLEAN program is really an exercise program, some special offers also come with it, like a fat-burning food guide that teaches which foods to eat to maximize fat-burning; and a kitchen and food healthy makeover DVD that includes Johnson's favorite recipes and nutrition tips for flavorful and healthy eating.

EXERCISE

The ChaLEAN three-part system is divided into a Burn, Push and Lean phase. In Phase One, the Burn phase, you learn how to correctly lift weights as a way to boost metabolism and burn fat. The Burn phase includes three different circuits that are progressive in intensity.

The second phase, the Push phase, you learn how to lift heavier weights, probably more than what you are used to in order to build muscle and burn fat.

The third and final phase, the Lean phase, includes routines and exercises that complete the entire program so that you are giving your physique a complete makeover.

Each phase also comes with a high intensity cardio workout and a flexibility routine. Two ab workouts are also included.
