BACKGROUND

The Biggest Loser TV show has garnered countless fans and inspired those that want to lose weight. Most people feel that they could never get cast on the show, but there are ways that you can follow along with the contestants and create your own success story. The Biggest Loser Club is an online version of the diet and exercise program that the contestants follow at the Biggest Loser ranch. Trainer Bob Harper, a renowned personal trainer, says that those following the home-version likely will not realize the same results as those on the show, simply due to circumstance. The contestants are in a highly focused environment for 12 weeks or more, without influence of typical daily stressors like children, work and chores.

The Biggest Loser Club online tools give you specialized menus based on your preferences and tracks your exercise. You won’t have to eat anything you don’t like while on this program which is a plus. You will be eating three meals and three snacks each day so hunger shouldn’t be a problem either. For your meals, there are included recipes and a tie in so that you can move meals to your food journal. You don’t have to count calories, carbohydrates or fat when following this program.

All of the numbers are worked out for you based on the information you provide. If you are looking for a vegetarian meal plan or want to exclude certain things from your diet, those options are available. There are charts to keep up with your progress and message boards so that you can chat with other members. You will also find videos and motivational articles throughout the site. With each new season of the show, the Biggest Loser Club provides updates on the contestants and trainers.

The Biggest Loser TV show has continued to grow in popularity with each season as contestants work to lose weight and become the winner of the coveted $250,000 grand prize. The winner is the person who loses the highest percentage of weight at the end of the season. There is also an at-home prize of $100,000 that the eliminated contestants compete for. The Biggest Loser will kick off season 12 in the fall of 2011 with new trainers and a new batch of contestants. The program has grown in popularity so much, that there are versions of the show airing in 21 other countries around the world. Those that want to full Biggest Loser experience can also check out the Biggest Loser Resort, with locations in Ivins, Utah and Malibu, California.

Bob Harper, and former trainer Jillian Michaels, have each published books with additional fitness and diet insight. Since season 5 Biggest Loser has offered the Biggest Loser Meal Plan, a meal delivery service via eDiets.

DIET and NUTRITION

You get to set up all of your preferences when signing up on the site. You have the option of cutting certain things from your diet like dairy, eggs, tofu, red meat, eggs, pork and poultry. You can also select a vegetarian or low cholesterol diet. If you want to make changes at any time to your preferences, these options are always available to you. Once you go through the process of setting up your profile, you are given your meal plan for the day. The site offers you three meals and three snacks each day. There is a chart that monitors your weight loss progress featuring your starting weight, current weight and goal. If you follow the meal plan with the foods and recipes suggested, there is no need to count calories. The program does all of that for you. The below meal plan is a sample of what is offered with the exclusion of tofu selected as a preference:

  • Breakfast – Biggest Winner Breakfast sausage; muesli with blueberries
  • Snack – Hardboiled egg; raisins
  • Lunch – Heather’s Mexican Rollup with chips, salsa and corn
  • Snack – Balsamic-roasted broccoli with toasted sesame seeds
  • Dinner – Steak with mushroom sauce; red potato with skin; steamed cabbage; Smart Balance
  • Snack – Baked Bananas Supreme

You can easily swap out meals that are suggested that might not appeal to you, and the recipes are available when you click on the details of the meal section. If you choose the meals suggested, you can simply add that meal to your meal log without having to manually enter it. This can be helpful so that you don’t have to break down all of the ingredients and amounts on your own. You can select the weekly view so that you know what you will be eating in the days to come and can shop accordingly. The site offers a shopping list so that you know exactly what foods to purchase to prepare all of your meals each week. There is a daily analysis breakdown on the site for your meals that day. This shows you the target ranges for your calories, carbs, fiber, protein, fat and sodium.

You'll also have access to many delicious healthy recipes that are enjoyed by the show's contestants. Some of these tempting dishes include:

EXERCISE

To personalize your plan, you can select which days you want to do cardio and which days you want to strength train. It is recommended that you avoid strength training on consecutive days though. Your workout assignments will be directly based on the information you enter. Just like with the diet preferences, you can change your fitness preferences at any time. You are able to choose your cardio and strength training exercises. The amount of calories you should burn during your workout is listed so you can select anything that will help you burn that amount of calories. There is a tutorial on how to choose the proper exercise. This tutorial will help you choose the proper intensity and determine the proper heart rate range for your workout. Keep in mind that your daily calorie burn requirement will vary depending on how many days you select for cardio and strength training exercise. Biggest Loser Club offers an extensive database of exercises for you. You simply find your exercise, enter the minutes you spent exercising and you will see the number of calories you burned. Below are just a few of the cardio exercise options:

  • Aerobics (low or high impact)
  • Step Aerobics (low or high impact)
  • Belly Dancing
  • Bowling
  • Cycling
  • Calisthenics
  • Elliptical Trainer

Rulon wasn't obeying the rules so that is why they gently allowed him to leave. It was very nice of them to do so.

I'm sorry Cindy about your health issues. I know it is very difficult to do any exercising when you are in pain. I have a very bad knee and each time I get gung-ho on exercising, it gets so bad that I can't do it. I need to do water aerobics, but it is out of the question for me right now. And since you are so limited with your budget, it wouldn't work for you either. There is so much out here on the internet that you really don't need to buy any books, dvds, or video. Just look for the free stuff that is available. And just move anyway that you can, whether is it in a chair (chair dancing) or walking through your house. Know someone who walked off 65 pounds just walking around her house each day. She has severe pain but she said that she is in pain if she doesn't do anything, and in pain if she did, so she chose to walk with the pain. She reads or alks on her cell phone. She follows the BL program as to eating. Hope you have a good day!

I absolutely love the BL!! Watch it all the time. I think it was Sam who said that he used to sit on the couch and watch BL instead of getting up exercising while watching it...I do that. However, I have severe degenerative arthritis in my spine & have had 1 surgery and b4 2nd 1 could be done, the discs ruptured. Now it is happening again. I am very limited on what I am able to do tho the drs tell me I can do whatever I want. Please help? I wish I could afford the food/books/dvds, etc but I haven't worked in 3 yrs. Also, I was wondering what happened to Roulon in the last season? Y was he not on the finale? Did I totally miss something???

First let me start by saying that the biggest loser show has improved the life of many people that at one point were at their peak of their career or in life. And for some unknown reason they let life take the best of them and get pushed by choice into many forms of depression or denial which moved them to see food as comfort. The show has moved people form the couch to a more interactive family lifestyle and it’s clearly shown by their reaction, attitude and outlook on life that your show has truly been a lifesaver. Being a Soldier for the better part of my life and always being active has given me a much healthier and stronger life. But now that I have been injured I still try to maintain a good regiment and have inspired people to not let themselves go and do see your show as a good benefit to humanity. Sure it’s good in your pocket, but you serve a much higher purpose and that is help people
Now, for the bad points that the biggest loser show has continue to allow and dominate the seasons past, present and even future ones (hope not). I have noticed that the show moved towards a clear game tactics, which completely moved the show more into a DRAMA show rather than a benefit to humanity. Of course everyone in the show does need help, but it’s clearly that there are ones that do need more than others. I have seen a lot of game play and it’s now time for the producers or the people that can make decisions to stop it. Sure it makes for a good TV and ratings go through the roof. But if there is ever a time that conscience comes to mind for everyone concerned and clears the injustice that the greedy contestants show just to make their move into a chess game to position the pons for easy win. You will see that allowing those bigger contestants to stay will make for a more dramatic event and fulfilling show.
I know this is not the place to post this note, but I just didn’t know where to send it and I am sure that you can send it to the right people. Thank you for your attention and hope that I will receive either a positive or negative response

I have lost 114# on this website! It is great for support and the Experts are fantastic! It is simply based on a healthy diet and exercise plan! If you have tried all the magic pils and fad diets? It is time to get REAL! Diet and exercise is the ONLY thing that works long term, and here you learn how to balance that and have a large support group just waiting to share your journey with you, YOU just need to take that first step and reach out to them! Good Luck!

This program is not useful at all and the company operates to rip people off. BEWARE if you sign up for an introductory membership you are responsible for canceling it on your own or you will be charged a rate that is nearly twice what you paid. It's a scam - no email notification or anything. They basically are operating on the premise that people don't check their bank account charges.

I enjoy watching the show and see how people are losing weight. But there is one thing that I would like to know is how someone with above the knee amputee lose the weight without doing the types of exercises that are on the show. I am very limited to exercise and I really need some help with how to lose weight when I am basically in a wheelchair all day. I do the exercise that I was shown when I came home from the hospital. But I need some info to help me get the weight off.

How wonderful for the people who have lost weight. Sadly, there are millions of us who can't afford the pleasure of equipment and food that will assist us in weight loss. It's not an excuse, it's a reality. Where I live in a town with a population of 80, there's no one to kick you out of bed to say, "go workout!" or to deter you from, "that's not good for you!" When you live on a fixed income, you buy what is cheap...not necessarily what is healthy. I'd like to see Jillian or Bob put enough food in a fixed income home based upon what they can AFFORD to buy and use what they have available. Good luck to the next batch of Biggest Losers.
