BACKGROUND

When following a weight loss plan it's easy to get side-tracked, lose motivation or even succumb to pesky cravings. For those days when the munchies are too much and you feel like giving in to an unquenchable sweet tooth, grab a cookie. That's right, grab a cookie from Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Siegal has been preparing, baking and distributing these cookie snacks to help people manage their weight loss goals. Dr. Siegal recognized that diets can leave you feeling unsatisfied and full of cravings. But when you can alleviate those pangs with a healthful treat, you're more likely to find success.

A half million people have turned to the Cookie Diet over the past three decades. These cookies offer a crunchy, sweet release from the confines of your diet. The flavor won't top any charts, but they are palatable.

PRO

- Presumably fills you up so you can avoid binge eating

CON

- Not explicit about how the diet works

- Much is left to your doctor's recommendations

FOOD and RECIPES

There are five varieties - Chocolate, Oatmeal Raisin, Coconut, Banana and Blueberry. Dr. Siegal's cookies can only be purchased via the online store. You'll receive a week's supply of 42 cookies when you order.

Dr. Siegal originally created these cookies for patients of his medical practice in Miami. It was a sensible way for them to give in to cravings without sacrificing their diets. Dr. Siegal's recipe is scientifically designed to promote hunger control. Be on the lookout soon for shakes and soups from Dr. Siegal's kitchen.

Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet has been promoted across the media, including Good Morning America, Fox News, and the New York Post. It’s been championed by more than 200 other doctors. The Cookie Diet is not a plan itself and may be used in conjunction with any weight loss program prescribed by your doctor.

EXERCISE

There is no guidance offered.

EXPENSE

Forty-two cookies (a week’s supply) is $56.

CONCLUSION

On the face of it, the idea of a “Cookie Diet” sounds patently absurd. But if they are packed with nutrition, it’s not like it would differ much from other meal replacements. It would be very unlikely that any reputable nutritionist would recommend more than one meal replacement a day.

Sabah:  Cookie's and diet in one sentence? I don't know about that..

Anonymous:  This is actually a great meal replacement diet. The cookies taste decent and are fairly well balanced.

Faith:  Agreed! this diet is actually very solid.. I am constantly falling off diets and I find the cookies tasty and most important healthy. Def worth a try.

bri:  boo. they suck

cindy:  the cookies are very small and not very filling. they taste all right but are very expensive.

Adrian:  stop coming on here to discuss diets, my advice to you is stop being a slob and start exercising

Julie:  Adrian, I have been exercising for 3 months now and have only lost 5lbs because I have to change my diet. People need to do both diet and exercise, so you can shut up about being a slob and not exercising

Adam:  I tried Siegels cookies I really don't have anything good to say about them, I then tried the Smart for life cookies. The taste is much better and I lost 20 pounds in just under 2 months

Brenda:  I have also tried both Dr Seigel and Smart for Life. I should have stuck to Dr. Seigel's cookies. I lost 15lbs in the first month. It does work!

tona:  Today is my first day on the Siegal cookie diet you should lose weight I am starving

Girl:  Uninformed people like Adrian who post on diet sites that all it takes is exercise are so frustrating - Adrian do your research, it takes diet to lose weight. Exercise helps some (not much) for weight loss, and can help for maintenance, but the way to lose lbs is by cutting calories - and the best way to do that is by dieting.

Marlene:  I'm only l33 lbs but wanted to lose about five pounds. Cookies are too small and they do not suppress my appetite. Lost 2 lbs in one week at their cost of $56 + $12 shipping. Not worth it!!

anonymous:  Only worth it if you can starve and diet at the same time. Biggest ripoff ever!! People who were successful had to have been on an appetite suppresant as well.

Yvonne Ross:  Well, I like them, very satisfying. Great with coffee, or tea, or any beverage at night while watching TV, they take away my desire to eat something not good for me, I am diabetic and I love them for something to chew on. Very expensive but I'm worth it........

Isalay:  I've been on the Dr. Seigel diet for two weeks now and have lost nine pounds. The cookies fill me up and I don't have an appetite. I can even eat out with friends, if I want to. It really does work.

Brenda:  Tried smart for life. Did lose weight but their program is such a rip off! Switching to Dr Seigel cookies! Cookies aren't the best in taste but if you really want to lose the weight you will suck it up and do it!

Katy:  Just started today. The cookie had a weird taste but I'm getting use to it. I like eating it with tea. It does suppress my appitite. I'll let you know how it goes....
