BACKGROUND
Nearly five years ago NBC introduced some of the biggest losers television has ever seen- and audiences couldn't have been more enthusiastic about embracing them and cheering them on. "The Biggest Loser" is will enter its sixth season this fall and has grown to become one of the most popular programs on TV. Not only has Biggest Loser touched millions of Americans- but now reaches more than 50 countries, with places like Australia and Guam hosting their own series.

Each season the show introduces three teams of people battling serious weight problems. During the fifth season, the show had ten teams of two couples competing to win. In the beginning, the teams are competing to win a cash prize of $250,000; but after a few weeks, they start to discover themselves and become more interested in getting healthy. The player who loses the highest percentage of body fat during the program wins. But ultimately, they all go home big losers who've won even more.

As the popularity of the show increases, so does audiences' interest in trying it for themselves. The Biggest Loser Club now makes all of the expertise and tools used by the contestants available to you. Trainer Bob Harper, a reknowned personal trainer who coaches Biggest Loser teams, says that those following the home-version likely will not realize the same results as those on the show, simply due to circumstance. The contestants are in a highly focused environment for weeks, without influence of typical daily stressors like children, work and chores.

Trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper have each published books with additional fitness and diet insight. During season five, Biggest Loser partnered with Bistro M.D. to provide the Biggest Loser Meal Plan, a home delivery meal service with healthy, chef and doctored designed menus.

RichSnow:  This show Rocks! It inspired me to get off the couch and get fit.

AndreaBealman:  I can't believe how much weight everyone has lost with The Biggest Loser. Those trainers are tough but they really make a difference and have gotten me out and walking again. Baby steps but I feel good to be doing something.

WhitneyDunph:  Great Job!!! A little goes a long way and the more activitiy you do, the more you will be able to do. The contestants on the Biggest Losers Club are evidence of that. Keep it up, I know I've been inspired.

Valerie G:  I figure if all of those people can go on national TV weighting a lot more than I do, then what do i have to complain about?! I may not be the biggest, but I'm proud to say I'm a loser too!

J.D. :  You're right- it's about starting small and working toward something big. It's to easy to get defeated. I'm glad the show made this open to everyone.

I weigh 290 ibs currently in college, and i have many health issues number one being high blood pressure, doc told me if i didnt get the weight off i was gonna require double knee replacement in two yrs ..........I rally do love the show and congrats to all the biggest losers in the world and for the g8 show that has inspired many

Maddy Bonet:  The show has inspired the folks in our department to start our own biggest loser. As I have told everyone that there are only four reasons that a person can quit the challenge and, that is 1) pregnant - need doctor's note for verification 2) you quit 3) you're fired 4) your dead. Absolutely no drop outs. and, the biggest challenge would be the months of July and August 08 where there would be no weigh in and, that the 3rd week of September would be our final weigh in. The summer months is to test the group will power and discipline and to begin a healthy habbit. May be you folks can come to our company and, offer this challenge and, hopefully change the mindset of those who lacks dicipline and will power.

Anonymous:  NBC Could really be helping a lot of people by sharing information from The Biggest Loser with viewers. I think it's horrible that they charge their loyal viewers money for diet and exercise tips when they make millions of dollars from the Biggest Loser Show.

catt:  It shows real people and shows the ups and downs, great job. I also love the new host

tex:  Is THERE NO HELP for those who are limited to exercise cause of SURGERY???Moved to Australia 7 years ago, finally found my biological family when I moved here. Anonymous:  tell me who exactly can put their life on hold for the amount of HOURS that the contestants work out each day? It appears to be a lot every single day, who in the real world can do that? the losses of 15 pounds and so forth a week, didnt come from just cutting calories or fats. I think it's not a practical show for everyday working people, but I am sure that it has inspied many to at least exercise some.

Anonymous:  In the real world you can work out every day. I work out 6 days a week, because it is a part of my life. You have to make exercise a priority. I have a job and kids, but I make time to exercise. People have too many excuses why they cannot work out. You just need to do it.

I also have a huge weight problem and fitness that is a thing of the far distant past I'm only 34 and need some serious help last time a I even looked at a scale I weight in at 260. I miss who I was I loved doing martial arts and playing baseball and I used to run 1mile with my one sister. I think Jillian rocks she reminds me of my sister that used to work out with me we would make up our own aerobic workouts. Janice would push me and not let give up she was great. I would love if JIllian or Bob could give me some pointer in the food dept. and was to kick butt into gear especially the eating as I have a really hard time with this due to not eating in mornings and food issues eating at the wrong times.

K. Chilton:  I love the show !!! Watched every show since it started. It's very motivating, but when you work full time, have a family and normal everyday chores, who has the time? I'm really having a hard time with my weight, have started eating better, but it hasn't made much of a difference, I really need help : (

Margo Taylor:  This has been the BEST season of the Biggest Loser! This season, there has been so much harmony toward the end of the show amongst the contestants! There is still a great deal of competition, but there is alot of concern for the other contestants, and that is so much fun to watch!! The younger girls on the show showed a great deal of immaturity, and now that they are gone the harmony is Great! I love this show!!!!

But, when I started loosing, weight, due to a side affect of a SLE/RA Medicine, I decided to stop eating, Fried Foods, Sugar, Breads, Potato's...Junk Food, & the pounds dropped even more.....I don't have pictures, but a lot of people that will back this up...I went from a size W/28 skirt/ 3 or 4 X blouses, sweaters, coats, pants TO A Misses/Regular size 14/16 or Large...(Went down 14 dress sizes) but, I find my self still going to the Plus sizes 1st then remembering they DON'T FIT anymore...It is nice to PICK OUT WHAT I WANT TO WEAR, not What I can get into....
