The flavor is good and it's thick enough so that it taste like chocolate milk.
I am replacing breakfast and lunch with Atkins Advantage shake's and eating a sensible dinner. Salad,4 ounces meat and 1 vegetable, low carb dinner. I lost 5 lbs in one week.

This is not a diet. This is a healthy nutritional approach that everyone should follow.

Also, watch the movie "Fat head" - the truth about carbohydrates.

I went on the Atkins diet in 2001 and stayed on it for two years. I was able to lose weight and keep it off during that time. I kept being pressured from family and friends that it wasn't healthy (although I felt great), so I went off it. Since then I have tried Weight Watchers and slowly over the past 5 or 6 years, put the weight back on and my cholesterol in up. I am now going back on Atkins and I don't care what people think. I have noticed that none of my friends ever lecture each other over binge drinking or eating, all that is OK with them, but for some reason they would go bonkers over me being on the Atkins diet. Oh well, I am going back on it.

LOVE the way this diet works. The *only* downfall is that if you do induction too long (which, because I had so much to lose, I did it for about a year and a half...) bad idea - if you do it too long, you WILL lose your hair. Not bald, mind you, but you will thin a lot. I've read about it and learned this is normal when your body goes through a sudden weight loss or trauma, but I've also read that it would grow back. Mine hasn't. I'm very thin on top, and my bangs which were always super thick are now super thin and very sparse. I'm extremely depressed about this. My advice to anyone considering Atkins is do it (induction) for two weeks. No longer than that. Move on to the next phase and keep all your beautiful hair.

I have been doing low carb since 1995. I have always had a problem with weight, allergies and arthritis. Within 3 days of leaving out all carbs, I was off of all meds and felt better than I had in years. I ate all the time and was never hungry but I lost about 25 lbs in the first month and I've kept most of it off since. I've also been able to stay off the meds most of the time. I exercise regularly also. My bloodwork is always good. If I cheat by eating something I shouldn't, I feel so bad for weeks that it better taste really good and most of the time nothing is that good. You'll know in just a few days if the diet is for you. If it is, you will feel so much better it won't be hard to stick to it.

I did atkins and lost 83# kept it off for 3 years and after that gained a lot of weight back finally in 2003 i started atkins again and lost 103 # in 13 mos kept it off for 4 1/2 years. I messed up when I went completely of the maintenance plan. I still like atkins and I am once again giving it a try.

Akins is great for dropping the pounds. However, once you get to your ideal weight don't start eating carbs because you will gain your weight plus more, I was pleased with the 40lbs that I lost and very upset with the 50 that I gained. If you will never eat another piece of bread, rice or anything with carbs ever then go for it but if you want to eat normal things don't start this diet even minimal addition of carbs will send your body into fat storing overload, remember you have been starving it of carbs so it will store it the minute you consume. Diets don't work long term, you need a lifestyle change Good Luck!

The Adkins diet is the best diet for me. Basically, no refined carbs, no sugar. You can eat a balanced diet with it. Want to lose weight? Go no carb. Want to maintain weight? Mix in some complex carbs (fruits, veggies).

I had heart surgery in 03 and stopped eating refined carbs about a year later. Now, the lower my carbs, the better my blood levels.

I paired a slightly modified Atkins ( very limited carbs) with Jillian Michael s workouts and went from 308.5 lbs to 163 in 18 months. If that is not something that works.. I don't know what is.

Best way to eat on the planet. I am satisfied after every meal. I eat between 2000 and 3000 cals per day and have lost steadily, from 303.5 to 248. I will eat this way for the rest of my life. If you feel sick or have hairloss, you are not eating enough!

I have been on Atkins for two weeks. In two weeks, I have lost 15 pounds, have energy, sleep very well at night, don't get the shakes like I did when I was eating sugar and I am hardly ever hungry like I was on your typical low fat low calorie diet. I eat plenty of veggies, pumpkin seeds and berries. I feel the best that I have felt in years. My yearly physical is coming up soon, so I will see how my blood work has changed from last year.

i know atkins works b/c i lost 40lbs on it. i consulted with my doctor and he said the only con was that it was hard to stay on it. maybe what happened to mr. watkins was a coinsidence. i have never had any health issues...in fact it cured the one health issue i had. everybody loses weight differently. take the jillian michaels oxidizer test. (google it) that will tell you the way you should be eating for your body type. good luck everyone!

My osteopathic doctor put me on a variation of the Atkins diet. Since, I have taken full lipid panel and my good cholesterol went up and bad went down. I've lost 23 lbs in about 2 months. He says the diet is not popular because most doctors don't think "outside of the box". For those of us with thyroid maladies, "I only have half of mine", it's been a godsend. 30 grams a day and the fat goes away. The best part, I can pass a Mcdonalds and not salivate for the fries.....I no longer even miss bread, just crave leafy green veggies and healthy berries and lean fish and turkey. I've eaten healthier on this diet than the previous 20 years combined....ps I have a diabetic friend thats morbidly obese and her regular (non osteopathic) doctor has limited her to only 150 grams a week.....apparently not ALL doctors have fits over low carbs..

WATCH OUT! There IS a "Con" of Atkins and it can be very serious and even dangerous. I was on the diet for 10 days and my heart alternately started skipping beats, racing on and off, with lightheadedness, etc. My doctor had a FIT when I mentioned the Adkins diet, saying it was one of the most dangerous around- causing potentially heart arrythmeas (my case), metabolic imbalances, etc. Talk to your DOCTOR before even thinking of this diet or better yet, do something ELSE (like Weight Watchers, old-fashioned calorie counting, even the Pritiken, though it's the Marine Boot Camp of diets!)
