BACKGROUND

Those wanting to lose weight in a short amount of time have a new, healthy option to achieve results. ExerciseTV is introducing a new workout program called 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme as a follow up to their top-selling DVD 10 Pound Slimdown. This DVD series allows you to lose 10 pounds in 28 days if you follow the workout plan and meal guidelines. Unlike most fitness DVDs, this one includes online access to the recommended meal plan. 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme offers a more advanced set of workouts and includes three different DVDs. The set also includes the original 10 Pound Slimdown videos as a special bonus. All of the workouts are led by personal trainer Chris Freytag. Chris has starred in numerous fitness DVDs and writes a monthly column as contributing editor for Prevention magazine. This advanced training system is separated into four weeks of training. You will be working the total body, upper body, core and lower body with these workouts. The workouts are rotated to keep the muscles constantly working in different groups.

DIET and NUTRITION

The 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme offers an eating guide that you can download and follow along with the workouts. The style of eating included in this program is clean-eating. You can download the 12 page meal guide from the ExerciseT V web site and save it to your computer for quick reference. There are three main components to clean eating which are grains, proteins and fruits and vegetables. Your whole grains need to be minimally processed. Choose lean proteins that are prepared without a lot of added fat as well. For fruits and veggies you can load up on those. This is a lifestyle eating plan so it is important to view it that way. Some quick tips included with this program are:

  • Eat foods that are free of heavy sauces and sweeteners
  • Eat whole fruit rather than juice
  • Eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day

Overall you will eat about 1600 calories each day. The balance of calories would include 40 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent protein and 30 percent fat. You can eat up to five meals per day including breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. You will find some great recommendations for basics that you should stock in your pantry, fridge and freezer. These lists are thorough and will help you create numerous meals without needing a recipe. Recipes are included for the items suggested on the meal plan. You are also encouraged to track the foods you eat in a journal. A sample tracking day is included in the PDF meal plan. A sample day of eating is reflected below:

  • Breakfast: Blueberry and zucchini bar; 1 cup low-fat cottage cheese with 1 Tbs. ground flaxseed; ½ cup sliced fruit or berries
  • Lunch: 1 cup pumpkin black bean soup; 2-3 cups salad greens and chopped veggies; ½ cup seasoned chicken breast or baked tofu; 1 Tbs. vinaigrette dressing
  • Dinner: 1 serving lemon and tarragon whitefish; 1 cup cooked brown rice; 1-2 cups steamed veggies drizzled with 1 Tbs. vinaigrette
  • Snack: 1 Popeye smoothie; 3 graham cracker squares; 1 Tbs. nut butter
EXERCISE

The focus of the 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme is on exercising the entire body and training your muscles. There are four weeks of workouts included on the DVD set that you receive. The first week of workouts focuses on total body and kickboxing. This week uses cardio and circuit training style workouts to boost your metabolism and prepare the body to lose pounds. On week two the focus moves to developing a lean physique, so the exercises are more targeted upper body and sculpting moves with Xtreme Yoga. Week three helps you whittle away those troublesome areas with Xtreme abdominal combinations. The final week of the program focuses on your lower body. Your workouts will work to strengthen and energize you. All of the workouts have been proven and the program includes days off for recovery. You will see results quickly which will help you stay encouraged and motivated. 10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme does require that you put in the work to get the results. The list of workouts includes:
