I met up with Dolvett, and his smile, in his dressing room just a couple of hours before the star trainer takes to the Biggest Loser 13 finale stage. He was noshing on a beautiful spread of fresh berries, salmon, almonds, chicken, and hummus, and admitted feeling a little nervous about tonight. After all, two of the three finalists are his contestants. Ultimately, he wants the best person to win.
We reminisced about this season, and how it took him from ballet tights and Zumba clothes, to the White House and Hawaii, something he was able to mark off his bucket list.
In the coming weeks you’ll see Dolvett starring as the first male to lead SELF’s Workout in the Park, taking place in San Francisco, New York City, and Chicago.
He’s mum on any other projects he has in the works, noting they are plenty, and still didn’t share any more details when I remembered he’d previously mentioned a book and workout DVDs. Maybe the DVDs will progress in three weeks or so when he finally kicks the custom made Louis Vuitton boot protecting his broken foot.
This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending my first Workout in the Park, hosted by Self magazine in Central Park. The day is a great opportunity for people of any fitness level to try out new workouts, get some fitness swag, and spend a healthy Saturday in the sun.
There were three workout areas: the main stage, the quiet zone for mat work, and the toning zone. I started my workout in the quite zone, for a Pilates Fusion workout on the mats. Then I headed over to the main stage for Retro-Robics, featuring 90’s hip-hop moves, followed by a LaBLAST class inspired by dances featured on Dancing with the Stars. Some of the other workouts included Cardio Tai Box, Yoga Body Sculpt, a Masala Bhangra dance class featuring Bollywood dance moves and a sing-along Glee Club workout. All of the workouts were provided by Crunch, so if you want to try one of these routines, check the class schedule at your closest Crunch location.
Although I’m a regular runner and occasional yoga practitioner, I was definitely sore in the best way on Sunday. The event was a great reminder of the importance of trying new physical activities and mixing up your workout routine: there may be muscles you’re not using if you follow the same workout every day. The crowd was enthusiastic and the turnout for the event was pretty impressive. Although there were several hundred attendees, everyone seemed to be in a very good mood.
For the past 17 years, SELF Magazine has been promoting women’s fitness during the annual Workout in the Park. This year promises to be better than ever with 17 different workout classes, including Kama Strength and LaBlast, to help women reinvent themselves into the healthiest and happiest versions of themselves that they can be. Famous fitness celebrities such as Allison Sweeney, author of The Mommy Diet, will also be at the workouts. Another new perk to this year’s schedule is that the Workout in the Park has added a new city to it’s tour: San Francisco, California.
Workout in the Park is more than just a fitness rally. Women from across the country meet up at the designated time and place to experience current trends in the fitness industry while also learning about the hottest beauty, health, and nutrition essentials that are in the market today. Even if it rains, nothing can put a damper on the Workout in the Park and the girl-power that it ignites in all of the participants.
Self Magazine’s annual Workout in the Park event is a great way to get outside and kick-off Spring, if you haven’t already. This is the 16th year for the fitness event, which encourages women to join together in a large park and spend the day working out in expert-lead fitness and workout groups that are fun, enthusiastic and engaging.
We had the pleasure of attending the 2008 Self Workout in the Park in New York City. Last year, Jillian Michaels was featured at the Central Park event, and while she didn’t lead any of the sessions, her presence was enough to make everyone drop and give her 20!
