We Love YogaToes Gems

We introduced you to YogaToes a ways back as a “vacation for your feet”, offering stretching, strengthening and relaxation for your tired piggies. YogaPro, the makers of YogaToes, have come out with a new design that promises more comfort without sacrificing the benefits for your feet you’ve come to expect.

YogaToes Gems are the new and improved version that slip on and off easier than the YogaToes, with an open top and little “gems” that hold the foot fixers in place instead of the closed tops of the YogaToes.

The soft and sparkly YogaToes Gems stretch your toes apart to help tight and weak muscles become more flexible and stronger. Perfect for athletes after a long run or at the end of the work day after wearing painful heels, YogaToes Gems are a great way to unwind while promoting foot health.

We Love Alexia Spicy Sweet Potato Fries

As if keeping your dinner entrees interesting wasn’t task enough, what about the side dishes? It’s easy to fall in to a culinary rut, no matter how much you do or don’t like cooking. Personally, I love cooking. I don’t think it’s stressful to make dinner, I actually enjoy it. And while a lot of people like taking short-cuts, like buying pre-chopped vegetables or pre-shredded cheese, I enjoy taking on each of those steps in the preparation. But like everyone else, I too seem to serve the same roasted veggies and salad all. the. time.

When I stumbled upon the Alexia food products in my grocer’s natural food section, I hemmed and hawed over whether to even buy them. I bypassed everything that I know I could easily make myself, and took home a bag of the Alexia Spicy Sweet Potato Fries. Why? Because 1) side dishes get monotonous at my house and we needed something new, and 2) I’ve yet to conquer the sweet potato fry. Mine come out limp, wilty and nothing more than a chunk of mushy sweet potato.

We Love Wholly Guacamole

There’s something about Mexican food that makes people want to gather together and turn any ordinary afternoon or evening in to a celebration for nothing in particular. The center of these gatherings being chips, guacamole and salsa. Now, these snacks can be high in calories and fat and just one more empty calorie fiesta. The best way to handle this is to prepare it yourself, but not everyone has the time (or even the money) to make a fresh batch of salsa or guacamole on demand. Eat, I mean meet, the next best thing – Wholly Guacamole!

You might think any ‘ole guacamole from the store will be fine, but an article at Yahoo! this week by Men’s Health editor David Zinczenko revealed that those premade guacamoles aren’t actually made with avocados. In fact, their ingredient labels show less than two-percent avocado with the rest being “green goo [and] a cluster of fillers and chemicals, including modified food starch, soybean oils, locust bean gum, and food coloring.”

Wholly guacamole starts with fresh Haas avocados, then adds onion, garlic, tomatoes, jalapenos and cilantro for a flavorful, fresh snack that can’t be beat by other grocery brands.

We Love Siggi’s Yogurt

Yogurt is one of my favorite breakfast choices. It’s easy to eat, requires no cooking, and I can take it with me if I’m running late. (Ahem.) Yogurt is also one of my go-to snacks, especially for my kids, who tend to have blood sugar issues in the afternoon. The problem with many yogurts, though, is the high sugar content. Often, the yogurt has as much sugar as a candy bar – or even more! I look for low sugar content and fruit as opposed to jelly, and I was delighted to discover Siggi’s, made by the Skyr company.

From their website:

“Skyr is the traditional yogurt of Iceland. It is made by incubating skim milk with live active cultures. The whey, the water naturally found in milk, is then strained away to make for a much thicker, creamier, concentrated yogurt. So to make just one cup of Skyr, with all that water going out, you need 3 – 4 times the amount of milk required to make a regular cup of yogurt. As a result of this process Skyr comes out with 2-3 times the protein count of standard yogurt.”

We Love Evol Burritos

Finding healthy snacks foods can be tricky. My kids come home from school ravenous and ready to eat anything that doesn’t move, but finding a food that a) is healthy enough to make me happy, and b) yummy enough to make them happy is, c) a tall order to fill. I was recently sent a selection of Evol frozen mini burritos. Evol is Love spelled backwards, and love is what I feel for these bites of yummy goodness.

Tom Speir and Brendan Synnott, two of the founders of Bear Naked granola, discovered these all natural burritos that were beingĀ  sold on the side of a mountain to climbers. Impressed by the flavor and quality of the burritos, they created a partnership with the creator, Phil Anson. Made with fresh ingredients, including free range chicken, whole wheat tortillas, and house made chorizo, these burritos have been profiled in Oprah, Vegetarian Times, Hungry Girl and Shape, and were voted Best Burrito by Men’s Health magazine.
