INFOGRAPHIC: The Most Famous Celebrity Fitness Experts Include Jack LaLanne, Jane Fonda, and Jillian Michaels

We’ve turned working out in to an all-star career. While most personal trainers toil away in gyms across the nation, a few rise to become household names. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard someone suggest what they’d give for even an hour with Jillian Michaels.

The former Biggest Loser trainer is probably the most well-known celebrity trainer these days, with a media empire rivaled by very few. Her face and name are on everything from DVDs and gym equipment to workout clothes and supplements. If you want to lose weight, Jillian Michaels seems to light the way.

She’s not the first to have lead overweight Americans to their goals without ever having met. Richard Simmons, Billy Blanks, and Suzanne Somers are just a few of the famous fit faces highlighted in this poster from The Flex Belt. (more…)

Suzanne Somers Releases ‘Bombshell’ Book on Lifelong Health and Vitality

Actress and author Suzanne Somers has released a new book called ‘Bombshell: Explosive Medical Secrets That Will Redefine Aging.” Of her 23rd book, Somers says what she’s trying to do is ‘make aging aspirational.’

“I turned 65 this year and on my birthday I thought, ‘When I was a kid, 65 used to be when people either retired or died, and I’m so nowhere near those scenarios,” the star said during a recent interview on The Today Show. ‘And I started really assessing what it was that I do and thought I’d pass that on.

Somers say she’s chosen to use this part of her career to gather the brightest minds in the kind of health she’s interested in – including Western doctors and those offering breakthrough medical treatments – and share that with the world.

While some may be skeptical as to whether or not ‘Bombshell’ truly holds the promise of eradicating some cancers and making some diseases obsolete as it claims, Somers says she stands behind all of the information she’s gathered and that she’s never been more proud of a book in her life. (more…)

The Doctors Explore the Science of Love for Valentine’s Day

The Doctors are going to get us all in the mood for love this Valentine’s Day with a jam packed episode planned for February 14th as they dive into the science behind love.

The Doctors will be welcoming back “Sexpert” Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Dr. Ruth will be addressing the audience’s most curious sex questions.

Amongst the advice from Dr. Ruth, The Doctors will be giving quite a bit of their own. Keeping with the romance theme, the benefits of making out will be explained. Did you know that kissing releases the “love hormone” oxytocin? Or how about the fact that the lips have 100 times more the nerve endings than the fingertips? They also determine making out can slim you. A couple makes out the entire episode while hooked up to heart monitors and calorie counters and burn a whopping 575 calories!

Dr. Ordon will chime in with ways to get the skin ready for your big Valentine’s Day date. He introduces two romantic and healthy facial recipes. An organic chocolate-covered cherry facial is sensual and medicinal as cocoa can fight free radicals and cherries are a natural anti-inflammatory. He also offers an emerald and roses facial comprised of a green tea mask and rose petals. The tea can prevent wrinkles and the rose petals seal in moisture.

If you’re resolving to lose weight, you’re probably researching the best diets and which is right for you. A quick way to determine that is to use our diet finder, which will match your budget, goals and lifestyle with the weight loss plan that best suits your needs.

Or, you can take a look at this list of must-watch diets for 2011. These are the ones you’ll no doubt hear your co-workers, aunts and best friends raving or complaining about in the new year. Some are a bit faddish and lend themselves to yo-yo dieting, others have solid foundations that set you up for success this year and for more to come.

The 17 Day Diet

This one broke out on the scene with the book’s release in November 2010 on Dr. Phil. Dr. Mike Moreno wrote the book to help people kick-start their weight loss, re-learn how to eat via meal plans and 17-minutes a day worth of exercise, and then give them the information they need for on-going maintenance. It’s a cycled way of eating that keeps the metabolism from getting bored and settling in to a status quo.

Weight Watchers PointsPlus

In November 2010, Weight Watchers unveiled the most significant change to its program in 13 years. Using the latest in nutritional science along with Weight Watchers’ nearly 50 years of expertise, the new approach allows for clients to make healthier, more satisfying choices. The new PointsPlus calculation includes protein, fiber, fat and carbs, instead of just fiber, fat and calories.

Jillian Michaels

The Biggest Loser trainer is on her way out of primetime, with season 11 being her last, but it is in no way her swan song. If anything, this is just her prelude. Men and women alike clamor to reap the benefits of her fitness empire that you’ll no doubt hear someone tell you that they’re using her fitness DVDs, using her online weight loss plan, or reading her books and cooking her recipes.
