Best Places to Run in Orlando

Waterfront Park: Located about 20 miles west of downtown; this seven-mile trail around Lake Minneola is one to remember. The park offers plenty of parking, restrooms, water, and a playground for the kids.

Little Econ Greenway Trail: This scenic, multi-purpose trail is located in Jay Blanchard Park. The eight-mile trail is filled with scenic river views and picnic areas, but gets rather crowded on the weekends. A great place to get-a-way without really getting away.

Cady Way Trail: This trail runs from the Orlando Fashion Square Mall to Showalter Field (Winter Park). The paved three-and-a-half mile trail is a great place to enjoy a nice run as well as take in some urban scenery.

I recently was introduced to MapMyRun, which allows you to search your city for running routes, which all list the distance as well as have a map with the route for you to follow.

When I recently moved to a new area I was having a hard time finding good running routes outside of the gym, having been spoiled living close to a park in my old neighborhood. I was recently introduced to MapMyRun, which allows you to search your city for running routes, which all list the distance as well as have a map with the route for you to follow.

Our very own fitness expert Matt has been blogging his series “Best places to run” and this is a great addition for those of you looking for additional resources for various cities across the country.

What I love about the program is that it doesn’t simply limit your search to larger cities, you can drill down to smaller towns and find runs that are in your area or you can even create your own. When I was training for a half-marathon I ended up driving through my neighborhood and mapping out 4, 8 and 12 mile routes using the mileage marker on the car. I can now map where I would like to run and determine the length through the mapping functionality.

If you aren’t a runner but enjoying biking, hiking or simply walking there are tools for that as well and it is a nice way to track your progress and mileage along with calories if you enter in your personal information and log-in regularly.

To check out MapMyRun and other tools associated visit: www.mapmyrun.com

San Francisco has so much to offer and I totally recommend a trip there if you have never been before. Just this year it was named number five on the list of America’s fittest cities, and in 2008 named the number one city for “walkability.” Finding a place to run in San Francisco is not hard, but be sure to find the safest and most scenic locations.

Best Places to Run in San Francisco

Big Basin Redwoods State Park: It’s located near the Peninsula and offers more than 15,000 acres stretching from the Santa Cruz Mountains to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. The ten-mile running trail will take you by waterfall after waterfall and trees that are more than 1500 years old.

Golden Gate Promenade: Located near Yacht Harbor, this three to four mile path runs along the shoreline and ends near the Four Point Coast Guard Station. This is a popular location so I recommend running during slow traffic hours.

Almaden Quicksilver County Park: Located near South Bay and offers over 29 miles of trails. If you are up for challenging steep climbs, this is the place for you. Restrooms are also available at all three entrances of the park.

I absolutely love Texas and have spent a lot of time in or around the Dallas area. The population of Dallas is over two million, but seems to be spread out rather well. Dallas is one of my favorite cities and it offers a fitness-friendly atmosphere as well. If you have never been to Dallas, Texas I totally recommend it. Below are the best and safest places to run in Dallas.

Best Places to Run in Dallas

White Rock Lake: This is the most popular running place in Dallas. It consists of nine-plus miles of waterfront trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, fishing, and horseback riding. If you love to run and enjoy people watching, this is the place for you. It’s also home to the Dallas Marathon (White Rock Marathon).

Turtle Creek Trail: This trail features more than five miles of creek scenery and wildlife located near Highland Park. This is a less populated trail for those who enjoy a nice peaceful stroll.

Katy Trail: Located near downtown Dallas. The trail runs from the West End through the heart of urban Dallas. This is a shorter trail (three to five miles), but well worth it. The Katy Trail is bombarded with restaurants and shops. It also offers great people watching and other beautiful scenery.
