From grunting while lifting to talking your ear off when you’re already rushed for time. I am a personal trainer (which means I am at the gym all day and get to witness each and every act of poor gym etiquette) and I have seen everything under the moon. Is it really that hard to put your headphones on and hit the cardio, weights, and then shower without causing a scene? Well, for some people it is. Below are the top gym dos and don’ts!

Top 5 Gym Don’ts

No grunting please: If the weight is really that heavy, you probably need to use less weight before you hurt yourself or someone else.

No cell phones: The majority of people go to the gym to exercise and get away from the world for a little bit. The last thing they want to hear is an annoying cell phone ring or someone on the next machine yapping on the phone.

No children please: Seriously, who wants little children running around the gym and causing a disaster? It can be a danger to them and other gym goers. That’s what the nursery is for; please take advantage of it.

No long conversations: Everyone is at the gym for one reason – to exercise. Keep your conversations to a minimum so that everyone can workout and then get on with their lives.

No “borrowing” trainers: Most trainers are at the gym working with paying customers; so their attention is focused on them. If you have a question or need a spot, find a trainer who is not busy and ask them, they should be more than willing to help.

Top 5 Gym Dos

Clean machine/equipment after usage: Please wipe off the sweat and tears from the machines/equipment after you use them. This will help prevent the spread of germs and such.

Respect the equipment: Please re-rack your weights and put back your equipment. This will help keep the weight room clean and will help out the next person tremendously.

Be courteous to others: Ask before jumping on a machine and vice-versa; don’t be a machine hog.

Dress appropriately: Please wear non-revealing workout clothes. This goes for both males and females of all shapes and sizes. If you want to show off your goods, go to the beach or the local pool.

Hygiene: Good hygiene is a must – before and after your workout. No one wants to be running next to someone on the treadmill with horrible body odor. Exercising is hard enough by itself, let alone having to breath someone else’s unclean scent.

For men, the word diet carries with it a sort of female tone as well. Dieting has long been thought to be one of those things that women do, like shopping and pedicures. However, the tide is changing as more and more men are embracing healthier lifestyles and actively working to lose weight.

This week is Men’s Health Week at DietsInReview.com, and we want to highlight a few weight loss programs that are focused on the needs of men.

You won’t have to tell your buddies you’re watching your Points at the football game, or ask the waitress for calories at a business lunch; you’ll simply eat and live in a more mindful manner. Plus, you can maintain anonymity by accessing the entire plan, resources and tools conveniently online.

His heart and mind were in it to regain his health and his life from day one. Sione lost 116 pounds on the Biggest Loser ranch (down from his starting weight of 372), and says today he’s lost about 135 pounds total. His weight loss has inspired his family and Tongan community. Sione explains that the Tongan culture is typically overweight. He says that now they’ve watched him, and cousin Filipe Fa, lose weight on national TV and it’s opening their eyes. His own family has come to him for advice, and Sione shares his breakthroughs with them. Recently he attended a luau where brown rice and baked chicken were served, which he says is unheard of at those events. He’s proud that he and Filipe have been able to influence their culture to make healthier choices. He’s even thinking about creating a “Polynesian workout” video!

Listen now as Sione talks with us about his training style, the traditional New Zealand war chant “Maori Haka,” the emotions of leaving Filipe, and his relationship with Tara.

Sione has also been inspired by his fellow contestants and trainers at the Biggest Loser ranch. He and competitor Tara Costa pushed one another to the edge. They were consistently neck-and-neck in challenges, and each provided motivation for one another to keep pushing. Having worked with both Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels, he’s now changing careers. He’s giving up his landscaping business and about to complete his certification as a personal trainer. “I knew I couldn’t go back to my old life and old career,” he says. From Bob he hopes to incorporate the physical work, strength training and the emotional changes that need to take place to meet and exceed your weight loss goals. From Jillian, he wants to adapt her focus on cardio, strengthening the lungs and heart.

Sione’s departure was abrupt, but he says it was expected and admits that he felt like it was his week. He’d never once been below the yellow line, and with a meager four pound weight loss in week 14, Laura sent him home. She had the only vote in this week’s elimination, power that Sione had hoped to garner himself. He consumed some serious calories in that temptation, and says he’d do it again if it meant a chance to have that single vote.

He’s motives to gain that kind of control over the game may not come as any surprise to loyal viewers. Sione and Ron Morelli were at odds, especially after Sione had voted to send “the godfather” home in week 13. Sione explained that Ron was definitely seen as a father figure in the house. The show played up his “godfather” persona, and Sione said “he really did control a lot of that game.”

For Sione, it’s back to controlling his own destiny in Phoenix, where he lives with his wife and two young children. He’s concentrating on completing his personal training certification, with hopes to build his own clientele, and says he’s definitely a contender for the $100,000 at-home prize.

And while some reports say that the reality of the Wii Fit is that most of them aren’t being used for fitness, but rather gathering dust in the more than 1.5 million homes with one, more games keep coming out.

This past year, Jillian Michaels’ released her own Fitness Ultimatum for the Wii to lack-luster reviews, and there are rumors that the Biggest Loser will release its own game. But before that, the show’s host Alison Sweeney is giving EA Sports Active Personal Trainer a try.

“When do I have time to go to the gym? It really is like a personal trainer in a box. It’s perfect. I recommend it to all mothers!”, raves the new mom about the game that releases May 19. Alison is also joining 11 others in a 30-Day Challenge, to be the first to try the new game and report their progress. The challenge begins with a spa retreat hosted by Bob Greene, and it’s no surprise that his involvement earned the product a Best Life seal of approval. Other participants include web celebs, mommy bloggers, gamers and daddy bloggers.

EA Sports Active works with the Wii to give you a stimulating workout in the privacy of your own home. With 25 exercises and activities that burn calories and tone muscles, you’ll be able to get gym-like results from your living room, den or game room. Virtual personal trainers will guide you through your Bob Greene-approved workouts, and daily progress reports will keep you motivated to stay on track. Other features you’ll enjoy:

Multi-player mode lets you workout with a friend, spouse or even the kids!

Includes a resistance band for more intense workouts.

Use the included leg strap to have your movements replicated on-screen, and receive feedback to improve your technique.

Use in conjunction with Wii Balance Board.

Virtual trainer offers instruction, feedback, motivation and tips.

Activities includes tennis, dancing, inline skating, boxing, volleyball and 20 others.
