Three meal delivery diet brands just received a major hat tip from the food experts at Epicurious. Diet to Go, Biggest Loser Meal Plan, and Chefs Diet all received “three and a half forks” from the culinary publication, recognizing them as “Best-Tasting Diet-Plan Meals.”
These leaders in the meal plan delivery space, shipping low-calorie and nutritionally balanced meals out to health- and weight-conscious customers, won in a blind taste taste against eight total meal delivery companies. The tests were conducted by Epicurious as they sought to find diet delivery meals that were reasonably priced, tasty, and healthy. The judges ruled over criteria such as flavor, texture, and appearance of a variety of polutry entrees. Out of four possible “forks,” these brands each received three and a half forks.
For Diet to Go, their Thai turkey tenderloin over rice with green beans and grape tomatoes held its own at the competition. The judges said the turkey was tender, and unlike so many pre-made meals the vegetables remained crisp. The judges’ only negative comments referred to the amount of sauce on this particular meal, and they didn’t love the chocolate brownie or chocolate pudding that come as dessert options. They claimed they tasted somewhat artificial.

This year, with Janet Jackson singing its praises, Nutrisystem is making changes to its decades-old program to ensure its customers find success without food that is bland, boring, or repetitious. One way is through the new Chef’s Table entrees included in the Nutrisystem Success program, which launched just before the new year. Nutrisystem invited several renowned chefs to be part of their Chef’s Council, and together the group of culinary professionals created the first seven entrees for the new Chef’s Table line.
The Chef’s Council is made up of Tony Mantuano of Spiaggia in Chicago, Kent Rathbun of Texas restaurants Abacus and Jasper’s, Mark Estee of CAMPO in Reno, Carmen Gonzalez of Top Chef Masters 2, and Michael Solomonov of Zahav in Philadelphia.
We spoke yesterday with Solomonov, who was enthusiastic about his new role with Nutrisystem, something he hasn’t ever done before. He calls the opportunity “super flattering,” especially in light of the peers he’s working with.
“With the guidance of the educated people at Nutrisystem, we’re highly motivated to make the best possible food for people to diet, lose weight, and keep it off,” he told us in our interview, noting that “change is refreshing.”

Last night, meal delivery diet Nutrisystem launched their new program, Nutrisystem Success, with the announcement that Janet Jackson will be their celebrity spokesperson. Jackson has recently opened up about her weight struggles, and has admitted to trying fad diets in the past. She dives into the subject in her book True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself, which topped The New York Times bestseller list.
“Dieting never worked for me, counting calories never worked for me, and denying myself the foods I love never worked for me. I needed a better plan, and I found it with Nutrisystem,” said Jackson. “With Nutrisystem I am seeing results already, and I am so impressed by both the thought and the nutritional science behind the program. There are millions of women like me who want to be successful but don’t have the tools to do it on their own. I hope I can help inspire them.”
The campaign’s slogan is “Get On It,” and Nutrisystem says a series of documentary-style commercials will feature Jackson answering questions about weight loss.

The popular meal delivery program Nutrisystem will be launching a new program this evening, called Nutrisystem Success. Details of the program are still forthcoming, however, it appears that a major feature on the program will be improved physical activity plans and transition support. Nutrisystem Success focuses more on helping clients transition off the diet and maintain their weight loss. Sustaining weight-loss is often a weak point for meal delivery programs, because many people have a hard time continuing to make healthy choices once they stop receiving daily meals. The new program will also help clients exercise more, with “My Daily 3″ personalized activity plans.
The company is also touting fresh-frozen Chef’s Table entrees, created by “award-winning” chefs. Meals will cost about $9.00 each, with over 130 options from which to choose. Meal replacement bars and shakes are a staple of the Nutrisystem’s weight loss plan, which has announced a newly re-formulated protein shake.
