If you’re planning a cocktail party to celebrate the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29, you’ve probably already started thinking about your menu. If you’re planning on serving libations along with your canapes, think beyond champagne and get creative with some festive cocktails.
According to Serious Eats, brown ale used to be known as “the beer of the British masses” but if you want to avoid a royal beer belly this year, opt for a lower-calorie cocktail and save the brew for after swimsuit season. We tracked down two cocktail recipes from Grey Goose that include fresh, light spring flavors so you can sip without wrecking your diet.
Whether you are watching the procession from Buckingham Palace or the comfort of your own home, toast to the bride and groom with an elegant cocktail fit for royalty.
Royal Chef Darren McGrady
Princess Diana’s personal chef Darren McGrady has announced that he holds the key to Prince William’s Royal Wedding cake recipe. When many are speculating about the ingredients of Chocolate Biscuit Cake, McGrady offers the true recipe in his cookbook Eating Royally that’s published by Thomas Nelson.
“I was thrilled to learn that Prince William had chosen the Chocolate Biscuit Cake recipe from my book Eating Royally: Recipes and Remembrances from a Palace Kitchen, for his wedding cake because it is also his grandmother’s favorite cake,” says McGrady. “I used to prepare it for both of them when they had tea together. The Queen would request the cake in the menu book for Sunday tea when she knew her grandson William would be joining her from Eton.”
Several reports claim that Kate Middleton and her mother, Carole Middleton, are both following the Dukan diet. The Daily Mail reported in November that Carole lost four pounds in just four days during the first phase of the diet created by Pierre Dukan. The diet involves four stages, the first of which predominately consists of lean protein.
However, there has been much concern over Kate Middleton’s apparent weight loss. Rumor has is that she has been following the same diet plan as her mother although the matter has not been publicly confirmed. “It’s a hugely private matter,” a press aide told the Associated Press. The 5-foot-10 future Princess was once reported to weight 120 pounds, which is on the low end of what might be considered healthy.
The rumors have been swirling for a while with regards to Kate Middleton and her weight, in preparation for her upcoming spring wedding ceremony. The tabloids have been reporting that Kate has followed the Dukan Diet, but the actual devotee to Dukan is Kate’s mom, Carole.
The elder Middleton, who is employed as a party planner, has been following the strict diet, which consists of several phases of no carb/low carb cycling since October. In the first four days, she reported to the UK’s Sunday Times that she had already lost four pounds.
The engagement that we’ve all been waiting for has come to pass – Prince William and Kate Middleton are slated to be married this spring. The eyes of the world have never been on Kate more than now, and it will only increase as the wedding comes closer. Women the world over have been under the same scrutiny, albeit in a less intensive light, and know too well the pressure to be a bride in top physical condition. Kate has always been in good physical condition, although she was seen to drop quite a bit of weight when her relationship with Prince William came into the public eye, quite possibly due to the harassment of the media. While in college, she was the captain of the hockey team. She loves to ski and goes skiing with Prince William several times a year.
