17 Day Diet Dethrones Weight Watchers as the Most Popular Diet in 2011

We’ve published our Most Popular Diets of the Year* list every December since 2008, and one brand has held on to the number one position that entire time. Until this year. In 2011 the 17 Day Diet jumped ahead of Weight Watchers. With one million copies sold, a Spanish version, a workbook, and a cookbook in the works, it’s no surprise that Dr. Mike Moreno’s 17 Day Diet was the most talked about weight loss program this year.

Weight Watchers maintained a strong position in the top 10, thanks in part to the new PointsPlus program and impressive endorsements from Jennifer Hudson.

Jillian Michaels has the most products on our list of 20, with three of her personal brands’ products holding positions in the top ten. She might have left The Biggest Loser, but her appeal is as big as ever.

Tune in to see if Dr. Stork can hold his own against Michaels as Bob Harper goes into full training mode and surely shows them no mercy.

Watch now as Bob does the “WOD,” or Workout of the Day, with Jillian and Dr. Travis Stork.

CrossFit’s Workouts of the Day are daily workouts posted on their website you can complete with minimal equipment or access to a fitness facility. They can include anything from pushups, rope climbs, pull ups and rowing machine relays, with the whole focus on completing the workout in the fastest time possible for you, or complete the most reps you can to do your personal best. Even if you take a CrossFit class where you are completing your WOD with a group of other people, your whole goal is to do you best and compete against yourself, which leaves room for others to encourage you along the way to push your hardest.

You can do The Doctors WOD at home. Do each of the following exercises for 30-seconds each, and repeat the circuit six times.

  • Box Jumps- 30 seconds
  • Sumo Deadlift High Pole- 30 seconds
  • Push Press- 30 seconds
  • Ball Slams- 30 seconds

Repeat this workout 6 times.

Jillian Michaels Talks About her New Role on The Doctors

The daytime health talk show The Doctors premiered with some big changes last week. Fitness expert and tough-as-nails trainer Jillian Michaels walked out with the white coats last week and took her seat amongst the experts. Michaels plans to bring a unique perspective to the show.

As a personal trainer for 10 seasons of The Biggest Loser, Michaels gained quite a reputation. Michaels was quickly known as a no-nonsense trainer who gets amazing results. As she steps into daytime TV and out of the gym, it will be interesting to see what elements of the tough Jillian follow.

Michaels was recently interviewed by Everyday Health and explained how her role on the show will be to serve as a non-medical liaison. As she is not a doctor, she feels she can ask the questions just like a viewer at home would. Michaels also states that the daytime forum gives more of an opportunity to teach people how to be healthy.
