When Biggest Loser returns for an epic 15th season tomorrow night, you can expect some same ‘ole same ‘ole where challenges, temptations, and weigh-ins go, but you’ll also be in for some exciting new treats. All three of our beloved trainers – Jillian Michaels, Bob Harper, and Dolvett Quince – are back in the gym. And of course, Alison Sweeney will keeping the whole lot in check from her post as host.
But what about the twists, turns, and surprises? Biggest Loser’s publicity team is very good at keeping a secret, but they’ve let out a few teasers that new and old fans need to know before starting this season.
1. One hour episodes. Many fans were growing tired of the two hour format Biggest Loser’s been known for for as long as we’ve been covering the show, which was season 5. Tuesday nights will only have 60 minutes of Biggest Loser now, with a few special two-hour episodes thrown in here and there.
2. Longer season! There are shorter episodes, but the fall season is longer. The BL15 finale will air February 4, 2014, just before the Olympics start. This will be the first time the season carries over in to the new year, and one of the few times a new season isn’t set to start right at the new year. (more…)
Meet the Biggest Loser 15 Contestants, Including American Idol Ruben Studdard and Olympian Holley Mangold
“I deserve to live a happy and healthy life,” said The Biggest Loser season 15 contestant Tanya Winfield. Achieving a happy and healthy life is a big part of the upcoming season of The Biggest Loser. This year, it’s all about second chances. From a former American Idol to an Olympic athlete, season 15 of The Biggest Loser is providing its contestants with a second chance at the kind of life they want to live.
For these men and women, it’s going to be quite a change from what they are used to. “I came in thinking I was an athlete and realized that didn’t mean anything,” said contestant and Olympic weightlifter Holley Mangold.
Most contestants agreed that the most challenging part of being on The Biggest Loser is the workouts with the trainers. “The trainers are what they are. They are here to do a job. They are personable and want you to get in shape, but their main goal is to change our lives,” contestant and American Idol Ruben Studdard said. All three trainers, Bob Harper, Jillian Michaels, and Dolvett Quince, return this season to help the 15 men and women on their weight loss journeys.
“We have a really good group of people. We’ve got people that are really willing to see themselves for what they are at the very beginning, which is they don’t have the ability, but they have that drive, that want,” trainer Bob Harper said.
For the first time ever, the trainers helped select the contestants, but they will also get to save them. Each trainer has one “save” this season, where they can reverse an elimination and keep a contestant on the ranch who they think deserves it. It’s an exciting first for the show.
Trainer Jillian Michaels added that the contestants change more than their physical appearances. “You don’t just see a physical transformation; you see the emotional transformation; a completely different self-image, self-worth. That to me makes all the hardship worth it.” Season 15 of The Biggest Loser premieres on Tuesday, October 8 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.

Jillian Michaels Breaks Through: A New Book, Workout DVD, Return to Loser and Live Tour Might Make This Her Biggest Year Yet
In case you missed the announcement, Jillian Michaels is very much back and on track to be bigger than ever. She rejoined Biggest Loser this season and is as popular as she ever was. Meanwhile, she just released a new book, Slim for Life, the sixth title by the star trainer that will no doubt join the ranks of bestseller alongside the others. A new workout DVD just hit the shelves, and this spring she’ll embark on a journey unlike any she’s taken before. You’d think the woman never sleeps, and you might be right, considering she has brought two young children in to her home since May – Phoenix, a son with her partner Heidi, and Lukensia, a daughter she adopted from Haiti. She’s talked about being Unlimited before, but clearly the woman is unstoppable.
We caught up with Jillian to hear how the new book developed and its uniquely customizable format, the status of obesity in our country and what else we need from Let’s Move, and even how these tiny tots have influenced her tough-as-nails training style.
What’s the big take away for Slim for Life? Anyone in particular you’re trying to talk to?
After my last diet book, I honestly thought I had said everything there was to say. Then, over the past four years, I have come to realize just how much conflicting information there is out there. With so many fad diets – and a new one popping up almost daily – I realized people were more lost and confused than ever. I also realized that maybe what had been asked of them in prior diets was too overwhelming. So I decided to write SLIM FOR LIFE. The book is for anyone looking for simple strategies that are affordable, effective and DOABLE because they won’t make you miserable [and will] get results.
I definitely wanted to clear up all the conflicting information and dispel diet, weight loss and fitness myths, debunk fad diets and trends, and provide solutions for every possible diet dilemma from hunger and cravings to finances and travel. (more…)
Jillian Michaels teased the announcement of her spring tour last week via Twitter, but made the “Maximize Your Life” tour official today. It’s the first time Jillian is mobilizing her message, and the tour promises to make this an inspiring, motivating, life-changing experience.
It all starts April 4 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, continuing on through a total of 35 cities in Canada and the U.S., with the tour coming to an end in Toronto on May 21. There are a total of nine tour dates in Canada, with U.S. tour stops hitting every corner of the country.
“It’s time to ask why not you?” poses Jillian.
She’ll help you answer that question in an empowering two-hour show, and leave you more prepared and focused to live what she calls your authentic truth. It’s not just about the sweat, or inclines, or what you’re eating, Jillian will show a live audience what she does best on Biggest Loser – break through. She has an uncanny ability to help people get out of their own way, dig deep and look inside to find the answers. (more…)

Episode five opens with the question, “Could this be the end of the White Team?”. The score is Blue Team: 5, Red Team: 4, White Team: 1. If I go home this week, Jillian does, too. The pressure is on!
I was SO nervous going into this first workout. There is no one else for Jillian Michaels to focus on; it’s one on one now. Can I keep up with Jillian’s expectations? Jillian and I took on a new approach this week – she is putting it in my hands. I will decide when and where she needed to push; it is up to me.
The Challenge: each team had a “Wishing Fountain” and on the other side of the pond were five-pound coins. Each person on each team needed to get ten coins in their respective fountain. The winning team would receive 10 one-year memberships to Planet Fitness AND the choice of a two pound advantage on the scale or the opportunity to call home! With my background in swimming and water polo, this challenge was mine to win! The challenge starts and I burst off the gate. My swimming days came back to me, but it was a lot harder. These coins are HEAVY but I knew I had to win. AND I DID! I chose the advantage; I NEED to stay on the Ranch. (more…)
I was sitting in the auditorium and my heart was pounding. I had no idea whether or not I would be chosen, but when Alison Sweeney called my name I was overjoyed. I instantly felt a bond with everyone else on the stage with me; we were all determined to start this journey.
All along I wanted Jillian Michaels as a trainer when I heard she would be back. She really seems to break down contestant walls and I was hoping she could do that for me. However, when we went to our first workout, I was not prepared at all! I thought we were going to ease into it at first, but without warning we were thrown into the most intense workout of our lives. I really thought this was supposed to be about our team, and it made me angry every time another team member quit or got kicked out of the gym that first day.
I think it is easy to see that I was having a hard time with Jillian in these first two episodes. I felt like she wasn’t being uplifting to my team or me. When I was finally able to confront her about it, it really changed our relationship. For the first time I was standing up for what I believed in and she respected that. (more…)
Whether it’s her attitude, her sexy petite frame, her adorable new kids, or no-nonsense fitness philosophy, everyone’s got at least one thing for Jillian Michaels. And now, her biggest fans will get to spend two hours with her every Monday night as she returns to Biggest Loser for the show’s fourteenth season in tonight’s special two-hour premiere.
We’ll see her work with the 18 new contestants (including three teens) in the gym and on what they eat. So it’s natural to wonder – what does this world-renowned fitness expert eat? Through her Jillian Michaels Online program she prescribes a low-fat, low-carb, high-protein diet that’s anything but complicated. She’s busy, and she knows the rest of us are, too. America’s toughest trainer doesn’t take kindly to excuses so you can’t tell her you don’t have time to make something healthy.
It’s easy to see Jillian’s approach to eating is balanced, wholesome, and tastes darn good when you look at some of the recipes she’s published.
Jillian Michaels Breakfast
Frittata with Spinach, Potatoes, Peppers, and Feta – Start the day with this egg dish loaded with fresh vegetables and just a touch of feta cheese. Would pair well with a cup of yogurt and fresh fruit. She pitches Yoplait on the show; we tend to favor Chobani. (more…)
For the fifth year we’re excited to announce our Most Popular Diets of 2012 list! And it’s a good one!
While Weight Watchers gave up the number one position in 2011 for the first time in our history, they reclaimed the top spot this year earning them the title of Most Popular Diet of 2012. As they are weeks away from celebrating their 50th anniversary, they announced Weight Watchers 360 to help people establish healthy, lasting habits right at the new year.
In a sort of diet tag, 17 Day Diet moved to number two, a more than respectable position for a series of weight loss books that has been hard at work since its debut in late 2010. This year 17 Day Diet expanded its value to its loyal followers with the publication of a cookbook and an anti-aging plan. One of only two brands that makes multiple appearances on the list, 17 Day Diet’s Meal Plan, facilitated by Bistro MD, landed at number 24 (down from number 3 in 2011).
For the first time in our list’s five-year history, acai doesn’t show up. It seems the heyday for this diet pill has run its course, but hasn’t taken the entire supplement industry down with it. Dr. Oz’s hyped promotion of raspberry ketones landed it at number 19 on the list, no doubt stealing a lot of thunder from acai.
Jillian Michaels is the only other brand that makes multiple appearances on our list, as she does every year. Her nearly five-year-old workout DVD 30 Day Shred took position 8, an improvement over last year’s number 10 ranking. Right after that is her Detox and Cleanse product, and anchoring the list at number 20, down from number 4 in 2011, is her Jillian Michaels Online subscription program. Her exit from both Biggest Loser and The Doctors in the past 18 months may have caused a slight decline, but her popularity is rarely wavering. In fact, America’s Toughest Trainer returns to NBC’s Biggest Loser for season 14 in January. We expect to see her on the list again next year.
