Our society is obsessed with the flavor of an orange, ribbed, and often homely looking squash. And thanks in large part to a certain spiced latte, pumpkin flavoring has been used in everything from M&M’s to chili and hummus.
A flavor that’s become so ubiquitous can be downright annoying, but it’s not the pumpkins’ fault. The fact is, the ugly squash is a bona fide super food, high in fiber, potassium, and vitamins C and E. The pumpkin is also full of carotenoid, an antioxidant shown to reduce the risk of cancer. So, when done right, a pumpkin treat can be a relatively healthy diet extravagance.
We’ve compiled some delectable recipes by five celebrity chefs to give you a little pumpkin-spiration. When you decide to whip up a pumpkin dessert, remember that pumpkin pie filling and pumpkin filling are two totally different things. And you must never discard the seeds within, as they are full of healthy fats, zinc, fiber, iron, and manganese and make a pretty killer snack on their own.
Pumpkin Seed Brittle
Martha Stewart, the unofficial queen of Halloween craftiness, came up with this super easy recipe. You need less butter and brown sugar than you might think, plus honey, and pumpkin seeds. This recipe has all the decadence and crunch of old school peanut brittle, but the pumpkin seeds give it a nice seasonal, healthy kick. (more…)

Have you ever noticed that celebrities almost always seem to be in great shape? I mean, they kind of have to; it’s their job. But I still wonder, “How do they do it? I mean, really, how do they do it?” Find out how Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, Amanda Seyfried, and Olivia Wilde keep their awesome bodies year-round.
Perry is known for wearing body baring, skimpy costumes on stage during her performances, so she has to stay in great shape in order to look good while jumping around on stage.
“[Katy] trains really hard with Harley Pasternak in LA,” said Jaimee Zanzinger, executive editor at Us Weekly. “They circuit train together. So she’ll go from hitting the treadmill to the jump rope.”
Kardashian has some amazing curves and she makes them even more impressive by maintaining an intense workout routine.
“When it comes to workouts, Kim Kardashian takes no prisoners,” said Zanzinger. “She goes from one move to another and really mixes it up. She runs, she does lunges and pull-ups. She focuses on moves that will allow her to keep those curves while blasting that body fat.”
She also avoids sugar in her diet and eats organic foods. Another interesting part of her workout is that she skips water breaks while exercising.
As soap operas are seeing an end to an era, many stations are picking up brand new formats for daytime programming. ABC will be introducing a new reality show called The Revolution in January 2012.
The Revolution will be a daytime talk show focusing on health and lifestyle transformations. The show was created by the same successful team that has brought viewers multiple seasons of NBC’s The Biggest Loser and Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Ty Pennington will join a star studded cast of hosts in this new series. Tim Gunn of Project Runway and famous fitness expert Harley Pasternak are among the roster for this new inspiring show.
Harley Pasternak is a Canadian personal trainer, author, and public speaker. He currently lives in Los Angeles, CA. and is possibly best known for his popular diet and fitness book, the 5-Factor Diet.
The 5-Factor Diet was originally only intended for use amongst celebrities. Some of the first clients to reap the benefits on this diet and fitness plan included Jessica Simpson, Kanye West, John Mayer, and Alicia Keys. Today, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Miley Cyrus are also avid fans. The 5-Factor Diet is easy to do, doesn’t require lots of equipment, and does not take a long time (only 25 minutes of exercise each day). The 5-Factor Diet also has received great reviews from DietsInReview fans: 100 percent who have tried this diet liked it.
Katy Perry pretty much has to look awesome all the time, but for her wedding to Russell Brand, she’s kicking it into high gear. She’s following the 5-Factor diet with the help of the regime’s creator, Harley Pasternak. He’s the same trainer behind Lady Gaga’s body.
“She’s getting in shape for everything…wedding, music videos, touring, etc.,” said Pasternak of the star. “She works out as often as she can. She’s a busy woman but her goal is five times a week.” The 5-Factor workout is a five-station circuit that works each part of the body for five minutes. The intense workout only takes 25 minutes, perfect for a girl on the go.
Abs like Lady Gaga. Arms like Katy Perry. Amanda Seyfried’s butt. We all want to look like the celebrities, but most of us don’t have access to the trainers or the time. Let’s face it, it mainly comes down to not having the money that stars have for fitness.
In a recent online article for That’s Fit, trainer to the stars Harley Pasternak shared some of the secrets. The author of “5-Factor Fitness: The Diet and Fitness Secret of Hollywood’s A-List,” Pasternak is known for training some of the best-known bodies in the biz, like Miley Cyrus, Halle Berry, and Jessica Simpson. His premise of “less is more” definitely has merit.
Showing off long toned legs in a black body suit at the Rock in Rio, Miley Cyrus proves that she’s really taking her body and fitness seriously. Cyrus has used trainer to the stars Harley Pasternak since she was 14, and it shows. Cyrus also follows Pasternak’s 5-Factor Fitness Diet, long credited with helping stars such as Halle Berry and Jessica Simpson look amazing.
