Denise Austin Shines as America’s Favorite Fitness Expert

Denise Austin has been in the health and fitness industry for more than 25 years and is most known for her exercise videos/DVDs and her emphasis on staying fit naturally. A few of her accomplishments include being an American fitness instructor, author, columnist, spokeswoman for Idaho Potatoes and Nature Made, and a former member of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Throughout her career, she has been known by her nickname, “America’s Favorite Fitness Expert.”

Austin was born on February 13, 1957 in San Pedro, California. At age 12 she began taking gymnastics lessons and increased her skills enough to later receive an athletic scholarship from the University of Arizona. While she was a member of their gymnastics team, she was named #9 in the NCAA on the balance beam. Though Austin did not complete her degree there, she eventually transferred to California State University Long Beach. In 1979 she graduated with her bachelor of arts degree in physical education and a minor in exercises physiology. In 1983 she married sports attorney Jim Austin and eventually gave birth to their two daughters in the early 90s. (more…)

Jack Osbourne’s Extreme Fitness Routine

Jack Osbourne is no stranger to the spotlight. He is the son of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and is now in the news for a different reason. Jack lost weight a few years back, which garnered him a lot of attention, but now he is enduring a new fitness routine that involves some extreme training. His new fitness routine is said to be the same type of training that U.S. Navy SEALS use.

Jack has gotten a personal trainer and is working out at Crossfit gym in Hollywood. Jack lost 50 pounds back in 2005 while he was preparing for his extreme show titled Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie. He has been focused on maintaining his weight loss and staying in shape since then.

The rigorous exercise routine that Jack is going through now includes elements from sports like gymnastics, endurance running, weight lifting and cardio work. There has also been recent news that after serving four years as a reserve police officer, Jack Osbourne would like to become a full time officer, and getting into shape and working out regularly to prepare for the police academy can only help.


Olympic Gymnast Nastia Liukin Shares Her Health Tips on Biggest Loser

Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin made a surprise appearance on NBC’s The Biggest Loser Tuesday night. The daughter of two former Soviet champion gymnasts was on the show to introduce the first challenge to test the contestants’ stamina. The winner of this challenge received $10,000 to Subway, which ended up going to Brendan.

The five time Olympic medalist was the perfect choice for a challenge dealing with stamina and perseverance. One of only three women to medal five times in the Olympics, with the distinction of being the 2008 Olympic individual all-around gold medalist, Liukin’s personal motto is “Never quit on a bad day”.

Liukin stays in shape with daily workouts, often lasting more than 7 hours each day.  She prefers healthy and organic food for her diet. Her breakfast favorites include oatmeal, eggs, or yogurt. For lunch she enjoys a salad with protein, either chicken or fish. Dinner is very often her lighter meal, like protein with veggies, but she is a big fan of sushi. She does admit to an occasional splurge when it comes to ice cream, though!
