Erin Brady relinquished her crown last night.
At the Louisiana Civic Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Miss USA competition went in the favor of Miss Nevada. Nia Sanchez, age 24, took home the gorgeous crown last night, a first time beauty pageant win for her state. Congratulations, Nevada (and Miss Nevada)!
What a tradition!
The annual Miss USA competition happens this weekend, with a few slight changes to make the event a bit more interesting to at-home viewers. The show, which airs live on Sunday, June 8 at 8PM ET on NBC, will last three hours, whereas before it was only two hours long. The idea of adding the extra hour is to allow viewers to get to know the girls a bit more thoroughly before Miss USA is crowned. The other addition to this year’s competition is the interactive hashtag #savethequeen. Throughout the live telecast, viewers can tweet #savethequeen to save their favorite lady’s spot in the finals. Of course, hosts Giuliana Rancic and MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts will be sharing the spotlight with the contestants in their roles as commentators of the show.
I was lucky enough to chat with Rancic and Roberts about their personal fitness regimens. The producers obviously picked a duo that could hold their own onstage—even next to 51 beautiful women—but I wondered if they were treating this job a little more seriously than other affairs. (more…)
On Sunday, June 16th, Fifty one women will compete for the big sparkly crown and the title of Miss USA at the 62nd Annual Miss USA Competition. Giuliana Rancic, E! News anchor and co-host of the pageant, says she’s ready to roll with the “anything-can-happen” moments and she’s excited for the world to meet all the fabulously fit contestants.
Joining veteran Giuliana (who is hosting for the third year in a row) will be first-timer, Nick Jonas. In addition to emcee duties he’ll also be performing with his band, the Jonas Brothers. Before they take off for final auditions and prep work for the live show in Las Vegas this weekend, Giuliana and Nick took some time this afternoon to talk about the women, the pageant and answer a few questions from the press. We wanted to know if the hosts felt the contest conveyed a positive body image. The answer was a resounding, “absolutely.”
One of the biggest fashion trends of the season is not hard to miss. It’s neon! Reminiscent of the glowing 80s, the bright colors are getting official fashion endorsements across the media. E! News’ Giuliana Rancic was amongst the first to announce the style trend, as the fashion expert told viewers bright colors, particularly neon, would be the color to wear this summer.
Why neon for this season? As reported by The Washington Post, Ann Narayanan, VP of Women’s Merchandising for Old Navy, offered her opinion. “This is the season of color: color on color, color back to neutrals. Neons are just one of the amazing color trends that are important right now.”
Neon is an attention grabber, it screams “Look at me!” Marissa Rosenblum, Seventeen senior editor, comments on this season’s color trend, “The highlighter colors have evolved this season into accessories, beauty products, and outwear. There are still the T-shirts, colored jeans, hoodies, and athletic apparel.”
Bright colors aren’t just for the catwalk, neon has made its way onto fitness apparel, too. Even running shoes like Brooks are brighter that ever with plenty of unconventional shades and designs. It’s hard to miss the neon when walking into a sports store this season. Brands like Nike, UnderArmor, and Jillian Michaels‘ K-Swiss collection have fused neon into their shorts, sports bras, shirts, tanks, and even socks! (more…)
Most people tuned in to the red carpet special for tonight’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards to critique and swoon over the dresses. We tuned in to scope out the healthiest looking stars. These women stand as involuntary models for women every where. We look up to them, an try to immulate the fitness regimens and diets that they follow to make them
We were once again struck by Angelina’s bone-thin frame, which we were first startled by two weeks ago at the Golden Globes. A rumored 600-calorie diet is to blame, as is her propensity for skipping meals.
Michelle Williams’ radiant glow could be due in part to her focused yoga practice. We loved her dress as much as we did her fit and healthy look.
Melissa McCarthy had one of the most beautiful looks on the red carpet, but we’d still like to see one of the funniest and most talented women in the business make changes to improve her health. (more…)
