Workout in the Spare Time You Didn’t Know You Had

The biggest excuse in the book is not having enough time to exercise. Truth is, whether you’re a stay-at-home-mom, CEO of a major corporation, school teacher, or a student, everyone is pressed for time. The other truth is, everyone has a few spare minutes they just aren’t seeing.

In college I took a “gateway” class, a requirement for freshmen. In one class our teacher asked how many of us were working out. Few raised their hands, all lamented their busy schedules of sleep very little, race from class to class, cram for papers and exams, inhale pizza, repeat. She asked us to write down every single thing we had to do during the day. Low and behold, most of us found a spare hour we didn’t even know we had.

The same is probably true of your schedule. If you’re already sitting on the couch watching reruns after the kids go to bed, throw a yoga DVD in instead. If you and the kids are already up at the crack of dawn, put their dry cereal in a snack cup, load up the jogging stroller and head out for a run. If you’re the type who works through lunch, trying walking through lunch instead.

The time is there, and our friends at Fitness Magazine have helped identify a few places you may be squirreling away time. It’s time to bring it out of hibernation and put it to work for you!

5 Beauty Secrets for the Holiday Season

It’s time to start decking the halls— and decking yourself for all the holiday parties in the coming month. Here, genius hair and makeup tips from Lindsay Watts, cosmetology expert and teacher at Empire Beauty Schools that’ll leave you dazzling, stat.

What’s the easiest hairstyle to whip together for a holiday party?

Keep six to eight bobby pins on hand in your desk— you can do almost anything with this little handful of lifesavers. Twist a quick messy bun at the back of your head, secure with the pins, and you have a perfect up-do that looks effortless but flattering. To make it a little more interesting, do the same technique, but pull the hair to the side of your head, sweeping strands to one side in the front: stunning!

What’s the hot party nail look this season?

There are so many great nail trends right now. I always love red nails for holiday and crimson is a great color for long-lasting gel manicures, which are super high-shine. Some nail technicians are actually rubbing grit buffers over these shades for a more matte look. These manicures will take you right through the whole holiday season, and with all the extra things on your to-do list, there’s no better time to have a manicure that you can forget about for two weeks. As one of the most famous personal trainers in the world, when Jillian Michaels talks about fitness and weight loss, people listen. Jillian recently left the hit TV show The Biggest Loser after 11 seasons of helping dozens of contestants drop thousands of pounds. Although her fame came from being a tough trainer on the show who doesn’t mince words, Jillian is also famous for getting results.

Now that she has left the show, many of her fans are wondering what’s next for this fitness guru. Fitness Magazine recently interviewed Jillian to discuss her upcoming projects, why she left The Biggest Loser and her personal exercise philosophy.

As can be expected with Jillian, she spoke frankly about following her gut and how she had to leave The Biggest Loser because the job no longer made her happy. Jillian didn’t believe she was living up to her full potential and wants to focus on her personal legacy.

Jillian discussed the pressure she feels to be in perfect shape as a trainer that’s constantly in the public eye, and how that pressure fuels her to stay on track with her workouts.
