In the winter months, it is nice and easy to cover up in sweats and baggy t shirts in the confines of the gym, but in the summer, taking your fitness routine outdoors will give you an extra boost of mood enhancing vitamin D. That mood, however, can quickly drop when you realize that taking your workout outdoors means being seen in public- and those ratty cover ups aren’t going to cut it.
As shallow as it sounds, many women say their motivation to workout correlates directly to how they think they look: if you feel down about your appearance, you are less likely to workout. Conversely, if you feel good about the way you look, you are more likely to not only show your hot self off, but continue to improve on your appearance with exercise- and a cute outfit is the fastest and easiest way to feel good about yourself.
I know when I think of Soffe, I think of comfy baseball tees and solid cheer shorts, but Soffe is ramping up their style to help you not only beat the heat while exercising outdoors this summer, but make a fashion statement at the same time.
Something tells me these models aren't SPANX's target audience...
For years, people have been wanting a quick and easy way to look slimmer. There have been diet drugs, powders, shakes, shoes; anything that promises to help you shed pounds and look thinner. Of course, there is always the tried-and-true method of exercising to become thinner and healthier, but many people still fall for the fads and quick-fixes.
One of the newer quick-fixes is as easy as putting on a pair of pants and a shirt. SPANX Active Wear (see image) offers a wide variety of body-shaping fitness clothing to help women feel more confident in their own skin. The SPANX fabric helps conceal trouble spots like muffin-tops and cellulite, while also using back seams that “improve your rear view.” In addition to the traditional pants and tank-tops, SPANX also offers a bodysuit to flatten your stomach and other pieces that flatten your thighs and butt.
So you can now buy SPANX clothing made specifically for the gym. I can get behind anything that encourages women to hit the gym, but pants with names like “Slim-X Bagel-Busters” have many people wondering if it is sending the wrong message. Don’t get me started on the “Wrap & Go,” which for a whopping $68 is specifically designed to hide your butt at the gym. What about doing some squats, SPANX?
A new sports bra will be made available in October that claims to “eliminate the bounce” for women with larger chests, who are often on the look out for that very thing. The new sports bra comes from the British lingerie company Panache, who specializes in bras for cup sizes D and higher.
Finding an effective sports bra that keeps bouncing to a minimum can be very difficult. High impact exercise can be jarring and in some cases dangerous to the body if you are a woman working out without proper support.
Panache enlisted their head designer Clare Fallon to create a sports bra that encapsulates each breast separately, which creators say works as effectively as “two hands holding the breasts.” Available in sizes D through H, this new sports bra is said to reduce movement from every angle. During the research process, the amount of breast bounce was reduced by 83 percent in a model wearing a size 32E while working out on a treadmill.
UPDATE: This episode of Dr. Oz will air again on Tuesday, June 14th 2024.
Are you clothes lying to you? Tune in to the Dr. Oz Show on Monday, June 6th for a special episode on vanity sizing. This episode will take a look at how some of the biggest retail stores are tricking customers into thinking that they are thinner than they really are, and what it means for your health. Dr. Oz found that the same size pant from different stores can vary as much as five inches. Are these practices keeping Americans complaisant about their size?
Plus, learn about clothing that can keep you from gaining weight and what to keep in mind about your actual size.
If you’re committed to a weight loss plan, you’ve probably experienced one of the best problems a dieter can have: your clothes don’t fit. Whether your goal is a size 2 or a size 12, it is important to feel fabulous inside and out — even when half of your clothes are too tight and the other half falling off your now-slimmer frame.

UPDATE 9/29/11: Kithe reached his 100-pounds lost milestone in September 2024, and spoke with DietsInReview.com to tell us about his journey, how he feels, and what this means for his career and life. In fact, in our interview, Kithe reveals that he’s actually lost 115 pounds total! Hear all about this, plus his progress with Ellen, in our Kithe Brewster interview.
When you work in the fashion industry, your appearance is one of the most important tools of the trade. Tall, thin, tan, fit, and a little natural spark keep these beautiful men and women in business. So what’s a man who weighs 300 pounds to do? He conceals it. So says Kithe Brewster, a celebrity stylist who has worked with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyra Banks, spent three years as Heidi Klum‘s personal stylist, and most recently dressed Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Cynthia for her wedding. He knows a little bit about what he’s doing, calling himself a “master of style and wardrobe” and being “good at masking it.” We believe him.
That skill helped Kithe conceal his weight and 49-inch waist from clients, friends, family and even himself. He didn’t realize how much his weight was affecting his health until last summer, when he fainted at a fashion show. He thought it was due to exhaustion, no doubt a result of his non-stop, international schedule; instead, it was because of his high blood pressure and cholesterol. “Something had to be done. I didn’t have any more chances,” he told us.
This was the trigger moment for Kithe, the moment he reconciled to stop neglecting himself and putting his “plane-hotel-world” career before his health. Listen to our interview with Kithe as he talks about beginning his weight loss journey with Duke Diet and Fitness, a renowned weight loss program founded at Duke University.
