The Tapeworm Diet is truly only for those with tough, iron-clad stomachs: Swallow a parasite that eats up everything you consume. As you eat, rather than your food being absorbed and metabolized by your body, the tapeworm devours everything from your breakfast cereal to your afternoon bag of chips, leaving you with a loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea and of course, weight loss.

Tapeworm infection is usually caused by ingesting raw or undercooked and contimated meat, pork or fish but according to the Mayo Clinic, if the eggs move out of the intestines, it can cause serious damage to organs and tissues resulting in cysts, allergic reactions and neurological consequences such as seizures. The Mayo Clinic also reports that adult tapeworms can measure up to 50 feet long and can survive as long as 20 years.

And believe it or not, you can actually purchase a tapeworm from the Internet.

Here is DietsInReview’s complete review of Tapeworm Diet.

We have often thought to ourselves: “If only I had a constant health angel on my shoulder gently nudging me to choose the broccoli over the potatoes au gratin or the treadmill over happy hour, then I’d be (you fill in the blank).”

Making healthy behaviors knee-jerk reactions takes time, dedication and practice. And that is just what the people over at Habitwise are helping you do: Supporting you to make better decisions today for a healthier tomorrow.

Habitwise is a line of easy-to-wear products that make healthy a habit. What first began as a simple weight loss tool named A-Wrist-A-Trac, which was discovered by a team of clinicians at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has now grown to a line of products for women, men and kids.

The weight loss Get Loss bracelets are worn every day by women and kids and the Get Loss coins are slipped in a man’s pocket as a daily reminder to eat better, watch portions or keep track of calories.

Habitwise currently has three different products: Get Loss bracelets or coins for men and women, Get Tracking bracelets for kids, and Get Wet bracelets or coins for adults. The latter is to inspire drinking enough water throughout the day. Rumored to be coming are Get Fit and Get Comfort products designed to help you keep moving and reduce stress.

But these aren’t just any bracelets like the lemon-yellow LiveStrong rubber wrist bands. Habitwise bracelets work like this: You receive 30 bracelets in seven different colors. Each color (and number) corresponds to a food group – blue (8) is water, pink (3) is fruits, yellow (2) is oils or fats, green (6) is vegetables and so on.

If you follow the Habitwise program to lose weight, you have two choices: Each time you eat a serving from one group, you move the corresponding colored bracelet to your opposite wrist (or opposite pocket for coins). When you have moved all the bracelets, you have successfully eaten your recommended food groups for the day.

Option Two is that you can use the same bracelets as a way to count calories or points. Each bracelet corresponds to 50 calories making all 30 bracelets a 1,500-calorie diet; or if you want to cut back to 1, 200 calories, then you only wear 24 bracelets. You’ll also need to use a reliable calorie counting source for this option as you calculate portion sizes and calories. For instance, if you eat an apple, which contains about 100 calories, you’ll move two bracelets from one wrist to the other; Nosh on an English muffin with one tablespoon of peanut butter (approximately 200 calories) and move four bracelets over to the opposite wrist.

When all of your bracelets are moved to the opposite wrist, you have used up your daily allowance of calories.

Plus, Habitwise bracelets are fun to wear and the array of colors compliment any outfit. If you are someone who needs minute-to-minute reminders about living healthier, the Habitwise products might just make your health dream a genuine achievement.

No stranger to the struggles with food and body weight, Platkin lived his childhood and most of his adulthood overweight. Ten years ago, he decided to lose 50 pounds and has succeeded at keeping it off. Now as the author of five health books, he is on a mission to take his time-tested healthy living tools and practices and support others to encourage them to lose weight.

Focusing on inside-out change, Platkin closely follows the lives of everyday Americans as they use food to hide from and distract them from the real obstacles that are preventing them from putting themselves first.

Or Mindy Jones, a selfless and passionate non-profit attorney who fights for the rights of abuse victims while ignoring her own health.

Each episode of I Want to Save Your Life chronicles Platkin working closely with one individual as he uncovers what is preventing them from improving their health. His tough-love approach combined with his strong nutrition background and his own experience as an overweight individual offers inspiration, motivation and practical guidance to anyone looking to take control of their health.

But, evidence shows that a Mediterranean diet may be even better in helping people with type 2 diabetes keep it under control without drugs.

A Mediterranean diet is rich in vegetables and whole grains. In a new Italian study the subjects ate the Mediterranean way, with 30 percent of their calories from fat (mostly olive oil). They were better able to manage their disease without diabetes medications than those people who ate a low-fat diet with no more than 30 percent of calories from fat (with less than 10 percent coming from saturated fat choices).

The study was thorough. After four years, researchers found that only 44 percent of people who were on the Mediterranean diet required diabetes medications to control their blood sugars, while 70 percent of those who followed the low-fat diet needed medications.

Katherine Esposito, MD, of the Second University of Naples, says the results “reinforce the message that benefits of lifestyle interventions should not be overlooked.” Which is a fancy way of saying your diet is a factor in managing your diabetes.

It’s not that the low-fat diet was unhealthy. In fact, it was based on the American Heart Association guidelines, which is rich in whole grains, limited sweets, with no more than 30 percent of calories from fat and 10 percent from saturated fats. The weight loss between the two groups was pretty much the same. But, the Mediterranean diet not only was more beneficial with diabetes issues, the people also experienced an improvement in additional heart disease risk factors.

It’s been a rough year for Jessica Simpson. If being beautiful, rich and famous is rough. Besides that, she got beat up by the celebrity gossip blogs and even the mainstream press for having experienced phantom weight issues. Then, she gets dumped by her boyfriend, the GQ QB from the Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo.

What’s a rich and beautiful starlet to do? When you get kicked to the curb, you kick back!

There’s nothing like a good old-fashioned break-up to whip you into shape. And in Jessica Simpson’s case, the road isn’t particularly long. According to OK Magazine, Jessica is on a “Revenge Diet.” Not exactly the most psychologically sound concept, but break-ups make us do irrational things. Or, so I’ve heard.

The magazine quotes a source close to Simpson as saying, “Right after Tony ended things, Jessica said, ‘I want my old body back.’”

Simpson has been spotted at celebrity trainer Harvey Pasternak’s fitness center. The source close to Simpson also shared this:

“Jessica is serious about getting her body back into fighting shape. Working out is helping to give her focus and clear her head. It’s better than sitting around moping or throwing pity parties with ice cream sundaes.

“She’s tired of weight being a talking point.”

Translated: this is hurting her career.

I think I can safely speak for most rational guys on the planet by saying, old body, new body… was there really a significant difference?

For all those who have tried to lose weight, you know that it is a constant battle. Calories in calories out, low-carb, no-carb, Atkins, South Beach Diet, the Biggest Loser Diet, and this list goes on. There are so many choices, and all we want are results. Some go to extreme measures to lose weight, and in affect, are counter productive. One of the biggest mistakes made on any diet program, believe it or not, is undereating. You may be asking yourself how is that possible? If I take in fewer calories than I eat I’ll lose more weight. Wrong idea.

That may work for maybe a week, but eventually your body will go into starvation mode. Your body will hold onto every single morsel you put into your body, you will stop losing weight, and possibly gain weight.
I have made that mistake many times. The best plan is simply to live in balance. Eat a good variety of foods, and count your calories. Now, how many calories should you be eating?
That answer varies. There are two different ways to do this. I have used both and like both results.

The first method, take your current body weight, and multiply it by 7. (Ex. I weigh 200 pounds 200×7=1400. I get 1400 calories a day until I reach my goal.) That is it. One problem I find with this method, and the reason I do not use it, is that whenever you weigh yourself you have to adjust your calorie intake, then re-adjust to a maintenance calorie intake when you reach your goal.

The second method, and the one I use, is eating for your desired body weight. Essentially, you eat the amount of calories for a maintenance mode of a certain weight. This form of eating is not as fast on weight loss, but is my favorite for two main reasons. First off, you get to eat more, which is always a plus. And secondly, you never have to adjust how many calories you take in a day. One time figuring and you are finished.

Again, how do you figure it out?

For a man: Let’s say you weigh 230 pounds, but want to get to 200. Eat like you are trying to maintain a 200 pound weight. So take the 200 pounds, multiply it by 10. You get 2000 calories for the day.
But weight (get it), there’s more. For every hour you workout a week AT HIGH INTENSITY, you can add one calorie per pound body weight. So I workout two hours a week, at high intensity, I get another 200 calories a day.

For women: Same formula, but I wouldn’t go over 12 calories per pound of body weight.

Either way you go, you’ll get the right amount of calories, and avoid the classic pitfalls of weight loss!

I will never forget when I was 13, I was astonished how my uncle stayed so thin and he never finished what was on his plate. I remember saying to him, “How do you know when you are full?” He replied, “I eat until I am satisfied and then stop.” I remember thinking, “What are you talking about?” I have never understood that concept and I still don’t. I am a member of the “Clean Plate Club.” I feel like I have been out of touch with my body for a very long time, about 30 years since I was 13 when my mother passed away.

By overeating enough at the right times I could go to sleep or just “veg” out in front of the TV with food. As I got into my mid-20s I noticed that I had a lot of gas and was going to the bathroom a lot. Years went by and I was never able to correlate what was going on with my body in relation to what I was eating. At some point I just surrendered and said to myself, “This is just the way my body is.” Meanwhile I was struggling with food and always feeling hungry.

In 1999, after I found a 12-step group for compulsive eaters, I learned a new way of eating and started eating three meals a day. That is where my work began in relation to my eating issues. I stopped eating white sugar and white flour. That is also when I learned about eating different vegetables.

The nationwide, all-female fitness centers Curves has just launched a new weight management plan that helps you say goodbye to yo-yo dieting once and for all.

Available to all Curves members, this new plan offers monthly classes that teach you how to rev up your metabolism, eat all day long and enjoy a variety of foods without gaining weight. Curves experts know that diets that forbid certain foods never work in the long run. Therefore, their Weight Management Plan shows you how to safely and satisfyingly incorporate your favorite eats into your weight loss plan while not sabotaging your efforts to meet or maintain your weight loss goal.

The plan starts out as a 30-day plan that teaches you how to lose weight and keep it off. Once the 30 days are up, you will have just the tools and knowledge needed to maintain your goal weight. The maintenance phase allows you to eat 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day without gaining back an ounce of what you lost! Key to this generous daily calorie allotment are regular visits to a Curves gym to keep your metabolism stoked and your muscles lean.

To learn more about Curves new Weight Management Plan, contact a local Curves in your area, or sign-up for Curves now.

Once topping the scales at 500 pounds, Ruby made millions of us laugh, cry and motivated as she began a near unfathomable hurtle of losing some of the 500 pounds she carried. As she began to lose weight, she started to work with Dr. Paul Bradley, a primary care physician and obesity specialist residing in Savannah, Georgia. He taught Ruby the three main components of successful and long-term weight loss: Diet, education and exercise.

Now with the assistance of Dr. Bradley’s team of physicians and registered dietitians, Ruby’s and Dr. Bradley’s plan can be experienced by anyone who is looking to lose weight in a convenient and healthy manner. The Ourlife Health weight loss program is a meal delivery program that makes fresh, calorie and portion controlled meals and delivers them to your door each week. These meals, like Tequila Shrimp Salad with Lime Cilantro Dressing, Fresh Atlantic Cod with Asian Soy Glaze and Grilled Veggie Pasta Bake, are the same meals that Ruby dines on as she continues on her mission to lose weight. Thus far, she has lost 150 pounds, having previously followed Hourglass Weight Loss and now following the Ourlife program.

While the Ourlife program is a comprehensive program offering exercise and counseling in addition to the delivered meals, it is currently only available in full access to those who live in the Savannah, Georgia region. Fortunately, the program will be expanding its online services in the coming months so that these complete services can be available to anyone around the country who is looking to lose weight.

Don’t forget to tune in to Season 2 of “Ruby” starting July 5 on the Style Network.

They are continuing to examine markets where they might further grow their business in 2010.

Currently customers can visit Medifast in person at 19 franchise-owned locations and 20 corporate-owned locations. A new Tucson-based franchisee plans to open three locations during the next five years.

While having a physical location can certainly help create more meaningful relationships with customers, Medifast has most notably been managed online or via phone. The company ships its meal replacement shakes, bars, soups, puddings and other “soft food” products directly to the homes of its customers. This gives users both convenience and a sense of privacy while trying to manage their weight.

Unlike many of the fad diet approaches, Medifast has several reputable studies supporting its health and weight loss claims. Some clients see weight loss of as much as 20 pounds in the first month when they follow the plan’s guidance.
