Hollywood’s elite may have the money to hire personal trainers and chefs and buy the best exercise equipment, but when it comes to losing weight, the responsibility for putting all of these tools into action is theirs and theirs alone.
Our fascination with how they do it (and why we struggle so much) has inspired us to take a close look into their personal lives to motivate us as we strive to reach and maintain our weight loss goals. So here is a snapshot of a few of Hollywood’s most successful dieters and what helped them shape up and slim down.
Katie Holmes: Mrs. Cruise has always been in amazing shape, but after giving birth to daughter, Suri, Katie was ready to get back to her pre-pregnancy bod and look great for her wedding. She took up running in order to shed those post-baby pounds and not only did it pay off but her passion for running inspired her to run and complete the New York City marathon in 2007.

These celebrities went to heavy and back in 2008, and have started 2009 looking like the fabulous hotties we love.

Some actors take extreme measures when preparing for future roles. And that includes gaining or losing significant amounts of weight. Sometimes it’s cosmetic, while other times the actor takes it to dangerous levels. Here are some of the more notable examples:
Manipulating weight on a dramatic level famously began with Robert DeNiro in his role as Jake LaMotta in the 1980 film Raging Bull. During the fight scenes, DeNiro was in tip-top shape; cut out of granite. But for his scenes as the washed up pugilist, DeNiro packed on a whopping 60 pounds. According to the Internet Movie Database, the weight gain was a record for the time. It was later topped by Vincent D’Onofrio who gained 70 pounds for his role as private Pyle in Stanley Kubrick’s haunting Vietnam war picture, Full Metal Jacket.
According to director Martin Scorsese, the film’s production was closed down for about four months, allowing DeNiro to binge on carb-loaded Italian food. It made for an amazing transformation for the film’s final scenes.
Once the acting legend Robert DeNiro set the bar so high for fully committing to a movie role, Oscar hopefuls lined up to show what they were made of.
Renee Zellweger is probably the most famous actress to make a point of dramatically transforming her body. She did it twice for two installments of the Bridget Jones films. Zellweger is normally a slim size six, but for the films she transformed into a size 14.

In preparation for her movie role in “Cadillac Records,” Beyonce Knowles had to gain some weight as she portrays the sultry but conflicted blues singer, Etta James.
Following on the heels of such actresses as Renee Zellwegger and Hilary Swank who also packed on the pounds for their craft, Knowles didn’t say much about which foods she indulged in, but she did say that it was more fun to gain than having to lose weight.
“It was way easier — and tastier — than having to lose so much weight for Dreamgirls,” said the actress.

My wife, of all people, has said that Eva Longoria is the most beautiful woman in Hollywood. Who am I to argue, but I wisely never expound upon her belief in this very easy-to-argue stance.
Hollywood starlets seem to have it all – money, fame (if that floats your boat) and the glory of a high profile career. But even with all this, the most beautiful woman on the planet (that’s my wife speaking, not me) isn’t immune to the occasional imperfection.
