We didn’t get much of a chance to get to know David, as he left the Biggest Loser week 1 as a result of Alison’s twist; but America did quickly fall for Daniel. He was the heaviest player in the show’s history, a starting weight of 454 pounds, and also one of the youngest at age 19.
Daniel worked out with Jillian at the ranch for 30 days, and lost 60 pounds before being eliminated in week 4. Saying goodbye to Jillian, he said “I love you.” He told us “she’s five-foot-nothing and I’m terrified of this woman,” in a jovial way that shows the respect they have for one another, and the appreciation he has for her. He said in week four when he fell on the treadmill while Jillian yelled at him that that moment was his turning point. All he could think about was being at home on the couch eating ice cream, and that’s when he finally had to admit he is an emotional eater. He now understands what food is and how to put it in its place.
Meanwhile, David was back at home in North Carolina. He said “the camera guys tell you want to do,” and that he was naive enough to think they wouldn’t air video of him eating fried chicken (on what turned out to be his high calorie day). Daniel said it hurt him to finally learn the hard time David was having back at home.
Listen now as David and Daniel discuss the growing child and teen obesity trends, and where the responsibility lies.
Cupcakes, pizza, tacos… oh my! That could only mean one thing on the Biggest Loser — TEMPTATION! The contestants are teased with the sweet scents of comfort foods such as cupcakes, pizza and peanut butter cups. The team that eats the most calories in five minutes will win a visit home with their trainer. Mandi had a slice of pizza, but is beat by Sione who munches on a pizza and a taco. At home, contestant Carla wins it for the silver bullets with over 2,000 calories consumed. This victory will send Joelle and Bob Harper off to Detroit for a visit home and an unforgettable workout. Damien Gurganious has lost 85 pounds since starting Biggest Loser 7.
The elimination for Biggest Loser week three appeared to be in the bag – Damien Gurganious would move on to week four and hopefully bring fiancee Nicole back into the game. However, his competitors thought differently, and voted out Damien instead of Joelle. He says he thinks the decision was made because he was much bigger competition than Joelle. He’s OK with it though, because he’s doing better at home. Damien explained that being in your own environment with access to the confidants and friends who inspire him is much better than being at the ranch. Plus, he has Nicole.
Hear what Damien has to say about working out with Jillian, and life at home with Nicole.
Is $25,000 really worth leaving the experience of a lifetime? This week the contestants were greeted by Ali Sweeney and offered an opportunity to have $25,000 if they chose to leave the Biggest Loser ranch this instant. She even offered a limo ride to the airport! It was a matter of how commited they were to changing their lives or whether they were in this game just for the cash prize. Joelle had some weighing thoughts on the matter and almost crossed the line to take the cash. Luckily for her, she realized that there is no experience like this and you cannot put a price on getting your health back. (more…)
Facing elimination last night on The Biggest Loser, Jerry Hayes is looking forward to not only the finale, but living a healthier and happier life. Jerry put in a hard fight during week two on the ranch, but unfortunately, did not make it any further than the elimination room.
At home, Jerry is continuing on his weight loss journey and is working hard towards his goals. He sat down with his granddaughter and made a New Year’s Resolution to run in a 5K race together in 2024. Jerry has started to incorporate running into his routine. His granddaughter is excited to be taking on the challenge with him. He aspires to run in the Bay to Breakers, a footrace that stretches 12K from the northeast end of downtown San Francisco, California through the city and finishes at the Great Highway (adjacent to the Pacific Coast, where the breakers crash onto Ocean Beach!). Biggest Loser: Couples’ first episode just premiered last night, and one contestant is already in the spotlight. Shanon Thomas, a 29-year old massage therapist from Centerline, MI, was charged with domestic violence in Macomb County on December 16, 2024. She was arrested and arraigned, after being accused of a confrontation with her tenant, Michael Nolden, a man renting a basement room. He says she yelled at him to turn down the sound on his TV (maybe she was trying to watch the live Biggest Loser: Families finale!), broke Christmas light bulbs and then tossed flour at him.
Thomas argues that Nolden through a pan at her and that he suggested she “get a pizza.” A judged entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf. No trial date has been set, and she’s looking at a possibility of up to 93 days in jail.
In this week’s episode of the Biggest Loser we are introduced to 11 new teams that are about to change their lives. Among those teams we have the heaviest female (Carla), the heaviest contestant (Daniel) and the oldest (Jerry and Estella) and youngest contestant (Mike) to ever compete. A few firsts for The Biggest Loser.
Jillian and Bob arrive and the teams are made. Before anyone even gets to training we see Jerry from the white team have a health scare as he passes out while the athletic trainer is taking his pulse. Jerry tells his wife, Estella, that he’s feeling out of it and passes out. We find out that Jerry had a drop in his blood pressure causing him to pass out. Thank goodness he’s OK!
The teams head off to their first challenge where they are to race from one end of a downtown Los Angeles bridge to another. But don’t forget about the 250,000 pound sand pile blocking their path! The contestants must arrive at their team colored flags and it’s not until both team members have arrived that they can race back. After three rounds the final two teams will compete for a worthy prize of immunity at the next weigh in. I know from experience that immunity is like having a golden ticket! We see the yellow and black teams compete neck-to-neck in the final round. The black team wins the challenge by the skin of their teeth! Literally! A hand is what got the black team across the finish line first! Great work!
Working out with Jillian and Bob is no walk in the park and the teams experience their first workout in the Biggest Loser gym. There’s puking, sweating, crying and screaming. All sounds that one would typically hear on a regular day on the ranch! Jillian dares her team to quit as Bob reminds his team that today is the day to take action in their lives.
During the first few moments of the weigh-in, Ali decided to deliver some crucial news. There will be NO elimination tonight. That’s right! No elimination. But by the look on Jillian’s and Bob’s faces, we know another twist is about to be revealed. There’s no elimination because nine contestants below the yellow line are going home tonight. Whaaaat?! After everyone weighs in, we see some record breaking weight loss! The brown team blows away the competition with a 6.60 percent, putting them above the yellow line and safe from elimination!
After an emotional discussion among themselves, the nine teams head into the elimination room to tell Ali who will be heading home. Leaving the ranch tonight were: Shanon, Sione, Laura, Aubrey, Nicole, David, Carla, Cathy and Estella. They have a chance to return in 30 days if their teammates are still in the game. An episode full of twist, turns and lots of emotion! To the at home contestants remember, “it’s not how many times you’ve been knocked out, it’s how many times you get back up!”
