Biggest Loser 14’s Danni Allen Will Recap the Season Exclusively at DietsInReview

Each year, sometimes twice a year, hundreds of thousands of people vie for a very few coveted spots on The Biggest Loser. At most, two dozen people are selected for the most exclusive weight loss experience in the world.

For the upcoming fourteenth season, there were 18 spots open. Danielle Allen, or Danni, was lucky enough to grab one of those spots. And we were lucky enough to grab Danni, as she’ll assume the role of Biggest Loser Correspondent during this new season.

“Whether we made it or not, we knew this was going to be our starting point. I never thought I was going to make it because the casting was so fast,” Danni told us of her casting experience with a friend. She talked with casting directors at an open audition and headed home, like so many other hopefuls just like her.

“But then, that night, I got a phone call saying they wanted me! I was shocked! A lot of paperwork later and I was on my way to to the ranch.”

Call it luck, right place at the right time, or fate, but this was just the next step in a journey she’d already committed to.

Last February, the 26-year old spent a month in the hospital sitting next to an ICU bed. It wasn’t hers, but that of her father.

“We didn’t think he was going to make it,” she recalled. He had a weight-related illness that hospitalized him. During his stay, he turned 50.

“I saw myself in him and I knew that that was not what I wanted. I knew he did this to himself and I did not want to one day spend my own 50th birthday in a hospital. I knew I had to make a change.” (more…)

Biggest Loser Teen Contestants Will Never Step on a Scale, says Host Alison Sweeney

“The trainers expect the kids to change their fitness level in a kid-friendly way,” Alison Sweeney told us about three teens on the new Biggest Loser season. For the first time ever, the cast of 15 contestants is joined by three teens in an effort to highlight the rampant childhood obesity afflicting our youth.

In an interview with DietsInReview, Alison defended that the health and safety of these teens was of utmost importance from day one. “The first thing we considered was their age, the best way to help them, and best guide them,” she said.

To do so, she explains that these teens, two girls and a boy, will never step on the scale, they do not workout in the Biggest Loser gym, and they don’t even live on the ranch.

“These kids aren’t on an island,” she said, contrasting their stay on the ranch to the adults who are completely isolated from outside life. Alison explained that the idea in sending these kids home was for them to “learn to care for themselves in their own environments.” Therefore, not only the kids but the families as a whole are being encouraged to make these healthy changes so that the ultimately support one another in this journey. Biggest Loser 14 Official Trailer Reveals New Contestants, New Logo, and New Theme

They’re back and not necessarily bigger than ever, but definitely younger! NBC’s Biggest Loser will return to prime time on January 6 for the much-anticipated season premier of the show’s 14th season. A season off has allowed the producers to refocus and (we hope) select a cast as inspiring and motivated as some of the show’s most popular contestants ever. In this official trailer released by NBC, we have a feeling we got just what we asked for!

Jillian Michaels returns to Biggest Loser this season, joining forces in the gym with Dolvett and Bob, as they “Challenge America,” the new theme for this year. We’ve seen the biggest contestants before, but this time they’re introducing us to their youngest contestants – three teens under the age of 18. The show has been a force in impacting the obesity epidemic in our country, but now they’re going to show how we can all impact childhood obesity, too. (more…)

Dietitian Cheryl Forberg Returns to Biggest Loser in Season 14

One of the most important people behind the scenes at Biggest Loser left at the end of season 12. Changing directions at the show and within her own life lead Cheryl Forberg, RD away from the ranch for the first time since the show’s inception. But when NBC called her out of the blue last month and asked her to return, Cheryl says, “I said yes in about three minutes.”

“Yes, Cheryl is back and we’re looking forward to a great season,” said an NBC spokesperson, confirming the dietitian’s return.

It’s obvious that Biggest Loser is a place this renowned dietitian and chef can call home. When she announced her departure last November there was a lot of shock. She told us then that the seven-plus years she’d worked on the show, helping to co-author the contestants’ nutrition program, was the longest working relationship she’d ever had. Apparently, the “enriching” and “unique” experience she had couldn’t keep her away. The contestants are likely better off for it.

“She’s a very warm lady who is always there to help us even to this day,” said Mark Pinhasovich, the season 10 at-home winner, upon learning of Cheryl’s return.

Cheryl has already been out to the ranch to meet the newest batch of contestants, who will debut in season 14 this upcoming January. With a week or two of filming and training already under their shrinking belts, they’ve no doubt already gotten a heavy dose of Cheryl’s medicine. Early impressions are good from her viewpoint.

“I just spent a few days with the new cast and I love them all,” she told us. “Their positive energy and enthusiasm is contagious and I’m certain you’ll feel it when you watch the first episode.” (more…)

Biggest Loser Season 14 Casting Tour Starts June 16

At the end of Biggest Loser’s most recent season rumors abounded over whether or not the show would return. Lackluster at best, even the most loyal and die-hard of Loser fans were jumping off the boat after a poor season 13. The performance of the show was called in to question when, after years of airing two-hour episodes, the show switched to a one-hour format. Even the live finale was only an hour, and viewers noticed when no mention was made of a next season, which is typically teased.

While the show will not return for a fall 2012 season it looks like it is set to be back on the air in January 2013, as the Biggest Loser casting team hits the road this summer to find the faces of season 14.

Just yesterday the BL14 Casting Team announced the tour dates and cities, which is much more brief than usual, with five dates and 13 cities (schedule posted below). Hopefuls can meet one-on-one with the casting team, where they have moments to bring their story and personality to life.

“If you are considering auditioning but are on the fence, we say GO FOR IT!,” said Holland Weathers, casting director for Biggest Loser, in an email to DietsInReview.com. “EVERY SINGLE CONTESTANT that has ever been on the show was on the fence at one point and never thought we would pick them…now here they are living the new and healthy life they always dreamed of!” (more…)
