Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway Drop a Combined 50 Pounds to Star in Les Miserables

The classic musical “Les Miserables” hit the big screen on Christmas Day and has since received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. However, one element of the film that’s stirred much discussion is the frail figures of both Hugh Jackman and Ann Hathaway, who combined lost nearly 50 pounds to play characters in the midst of a revolution.

Jackman appeared on Ellen in late December to discuss his demanding role as Jean Valjean, which required him to appear gaunt and distressed in much of the film. “I lost about 25 pounds,” said Jackman. “I was as lean as I could possibly be.” Jackman had also gone on a water dehydration diet for certain portions of filming in order to get a “sunken cheek” look. “I hadn’t drunk for 36 hours I had a massive headache,” he said. Anne Hathaway’s Nearly-Vegan Diet Made Her Catwoman Body Possible

After movie star Anne Hathaway found out she had received her dream role as Catwoman in this summer’s blockbuster The Dark Knight, she went right into training with certified wellness coach and weigh loss expert Jackie Keller.

In our interview, Keller explained that she started working with Anne in February 2024 to develop a diet that lasted nearly a year, until filming was over. Her anti-inflammatory diet consisted of three meals, three snacks, and one salad, which came out to about 1,500-1,800 calories a day. Anne would eat about every two-and-a-half to three hours, depending on how long each day was. The diet was considered nearly vegan because it consisted of no flesh, which was how Anne preferred it.

Since she didn’t eat meat, Anne got most of her protein from things like high protein grains. Keller shared some insight on Anne’s diet. For instance, her favorite snack was whole wheat lavash bread (extremely thin and low-fat bread) with an all-natural peanut butter. One of her favorite carbohydrates was yams. Also, on her OK-to-eat list was barley, soy, whole wheat cous cous (alternative to rice), and green tea. (more…)

Anne Hathaway’s Hummus- and Radish-Only Diet for Les Miserables Role

One Hollywood star has been looking particularly thin lately as Anne Hathaway prepares for the next installment of the Batman franchise. The actress, who will play Catwoman, spent months toning her physique to fit in the tight leather suit she was required to wear while filming. Her nutritionist, Jackie Keller, spoke to us about Anne’s nearly vegan diet, but was more dismissive of the starvation diet Anne followed for her Les Miserables role.

After the Batman film was wrapped Hathaway went straight to shooting “Les Miserable.” Before filming for that role she knew losing more weight was something the producers wanted. Anne started a strict 500 calories a day diet, which consisted of hummus and radishes. The star talks about her new diet in the latest issue of Allure. (more…)

Anne Hathaway Drops 16 Pounds in 3 Weeks for New Movie Role

Actress Anne Hathaway has been receiving a new kind of attention lately. Instead of turning heads for her flowing locks, toned physique and stunning red carpet looks, she’s been setting the media abuzz with her new boy-style haircut and gaunt figure for her upcoming role in a new film.

Hathaway will play Fantine  – a prostitute who sells her hair to provide for her young daughter – in a new on-screen version of the classic French novel, Les Misérables. The film also stars Hugh Jackman, and the pair have both lost a noticeable amount of weight for their respective roles. Anne’s, however, is made more drastic by her new finger-length do which reveals her now more prominent cheek bones.

According to reports, Hathaway has lost a total of 16 pounds over the course of three weeks in order to speed film production. To achieve her weight loss, Anne’s followed a strict 500-calorie a day diet consisting mostly of ‘a few apples and some protein.’ Compared to the general recommended calorie range for women of 1,800 – 2,000 calories a day, this a major restriction and isn’t healthy to sustain for any length of time.
