Alli Weight Loss Pill to Star in its Own Documentary

alliDo weight loss pills have a Hollywood “alli”? Glaxo, the pharmaceutical company that makes the popular weight loss supplement Alli, is financing a documentary about our eating habits. The company is going to partner with the Creative Coalition, a nonprofit social and political advocacy organization that has backing by entertainers like Alec Baldwin, Tim Daly and Susan Sarandon.

A spokesman for Glaxo says that an Academy Award-winning director will be named on January 25 at the Sundance Film Festival.

The Creative Coalition recently released a documentary directed by Barry Levinson called “PoliWood,” which examined politically active actors during the 2008 Republican and Democratic conventions. But, their latest project is raising some eyebrows. People are wondering if it will be a glorified infomercial for Alli.

FDA Looks Into Alli and Xenical Liver Damage Concerns

alli and xenicalNew research shows concern that two popular weight loss drugs, Alli and Xenical, may cause liver damage. On Monday, August 24, 2009, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began investigating recent reports that these drugs may be causing liver damage in those who take them.

To date, there have been 30 reported cases of liver damage by those who take Alli, the only non-prescription weight loss drug the FDA has approved, and Xenical, its prescription counterpart. Of the 30 reports, 27 individuals have been hospitalized and six of them have experienced liver failure.

Both drugs are marketed by British drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline PLC, but Xenical is manufactured by pharmaceutical giant Roche.

Phylicia Rashad Pitches Jenny Craig

Earlier this week, we told you about how Wynonna Judd is representing the popular weight loss supplement Alli. Now, there’s another celebrity signing on to be a diet spokesperson. Phylicia Rashad is the latest actress to take on the role. She’s signing on with Jenny Craig.

Rashad is best know for her role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show. But she hasn’t disappeared. Earlier this week Rashad was nominated for a Golden Globe for her lead role in Raisin in the Sun.

Rashad joins the ranks of stars such as Queen Latifah, Kirstie Alley and Valerie Bertinelli who have all been spokeswomen for Jenny Craig.



Singer Wynonna Judd New Alli Spokesperson

wynonna juddPeople magazine is reporting that country music star Wynonna Judd has a New Year’s resolution: to tell the world about Alli. She’s signed on to act as a representative for the super-popular weight loss supplement.

Unlike her half-sister Ashley Judd, Wynonna wasn’t blessed with a Hollywood leading lady figure. Which, in this case, gives her more appeal, since regular folks can relate to her.

“People can see themselves in me and say ‘You know what? If she can do it, I can do it,’” says Judd.
