Interview with Micah McCain from Bravo’s Work Out

Micah McCain was one of the “Sky Labbers” on the recently wrapped third season ofmicah mccain Bravo’s Work Out, a reality show that follows the life and times of the posh Beverly Hills Sky Sport Spa owner, Jackie Warner. What’s a Sky Labber? Part of the Work Out series is following a group of individuals who’ve signed up for Jackie’s hardcore weight loss bootcamp, Sky Lab. Micah was one of the lucky few to participate, and he lost 23 pounds during the filming of the show.

“I started working out 3 months before, worked out on the show 5 months, and it’s been 2 months since,” explains Micah. “Total loss of 71 pounds! I’m tired and I’m slightly hungry!”

Micah works in Hollywood doing a little bit of everything from “entertaining on stage, on camera and on the street,” he says. He has a new cabaret show that’s opening next weekend in L.A. and says that this experience on Work Out means he’s going to be much happier in the clothes he’s wearing while performing.

micah mccainI asked if he’s tried out Jackie Warner’s new Work Out DVD– and he exclaimed that he has not, because he has already learned the tools it teaches. However, anyone who hasn’t worked with the Sky team, he thinks it would offer an amazing workout.

When asked if he has any advice for those facing their own weight loss or emotional issues – Micah said “You’ve gotta mix it up!”. “Right when you feel like you’re getting bored of the food, you’re getting bored of the cardio, you’re getting bored of the training sessions, you’re getting bored in the gym… Please have the power and the knowledge to be aware that you’re getting bored, shake it up and find something new. I couldn’t run anymore. I was dying. I was like, I gotta get a bike, I can’t stop my cardio. And then I couldn’t bike any more, so I started taking cardio dance classes. Every time I changed it I got re-inspired. I would not let myself feel let down that I wasn’t doing what I wanted to do and fulfilling my mission of being a better person.”

Listen here to learn more about Micah’s experience during Bravo’s Work Out, and how it’s positively changed his life since.

Thank you, Micah!

Wii Fit Review

We, at DietsInReview.com, were one of the first in line at our local Best Buy to pick up the new Wii Fit this morning. After a few hours with the new exercise game we have put together a short video overview of the product.

Wii Fit Boxed

But before I show you the video I want to point out a few things.

  1. The line was at least 30 people long at 9:30 am, each person buying multiple Wii Fit accessories along with the game. It appears that Nintendo has spawned a new fitness game industry on day one.
  2. The balance board appears to well made – very solid.
  3. In line we heard chatter about more games and exercise tools coming out that will also make use the Wii’s balance board.
  4. We have 4 friends over right now all playing (exercising?) with the Wii Fit. When is the last time you had your friends over to exercise

Wii Fit Un-Boxed

I was very impressed with the packaging and the quality of the materials. The balance board also comes with a set of replacement feet, I guess they wear out easily? Below is our video overview showcasing a few of the games as well as documenting some of the setup procedures.

Jorge Cruise launches book tour

Jorge Cruise is currently on a 20 city tour at various Barnes and Nobles promoting his 10th book “12-Second Sequence”. As we were waiting for the discussion to begin Jorge came bursting through the doors of the Barnes and Noble in New York City, kicking of his book tour energetically, despite the frigid temperatures in the teens outside. His promotional tour is perfectly timed with the New Year as the majority of New Year’s resolutions center around health and getting in shape.

Jorge began his discussions by talking about his passion for health and wellness and spoke about his perspective on ridding the body of fat. “This does not mean having to starve ourselves or perform cardio for hours,” Jorge states. The key being to build muscle strength by fatiguing the muscles. You will not change the muscle or body composition without this key component. This compressed program touts the ability to create muscle quickly, which then directly impacts our resting metabolism (the state of our metabolism when we are well, resting) leading to more calorie burn throughout the day.

After an overview of the program, Jorge lead a sample lunge exercise from the 12-second Sequence with members of the audience spread throughout the store. The countdown to 12 began and the audience members participating confirmed feeling the burn that Jorge has spoken about. He also at this point spoke on a more personal level about growing up overweight himself and not having good role models to look up to. In this 10th book, that took 2 years to write, are pages on eating well, meal plans and an exercise tracker. In addition, the book provides a self-administered fitness test, which then leads the reader into his 12 second sequence 8-week challenge. As well as joining the 8-week challenge, readers have the opportunity to win $10,000 by signing up at www.12second.com and uploading their before and after photos. 10 winners will be selected.

Jorge ends by asking us all “Are we ready to take on the challenge?” Are you?

Going Organic

The NY Times health blog has a great article on 5 Easy ways of going organic.

“The key is to be strategic in your organic purchases. Opting for organic produce, for instance, doesn’t necessarily have a big impact, depending on what you eat.”

Direct from Kimkins – Rebuttal

UPDATE: October 29th, 2024, Judge Rick Brown found Kimkins Diet founder Heidi Diaz guilty of fraud and false advertising.

UPDATE 11/09: Kimkins Diet Class Action Lawsuit Filed

UPDATE:
Diets in review has received a rebuttal to our review from Jeannie Baitinger – Kimkins PR Director.

Dear Jim,

Thank you for giving Kimkins.com the opportunity to present our side of the story.

First please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jeannie Baitinger and on the website I am known as Tippy Toes. I am employed by Kimkins.com as PR Director and as management.

We know we are under attack from various sources. But many of these sources are coming from people who have only heard about our diets and have not actually tried them. The effect has been much like a snowball effect of people who genuinely mean well but are not actual members. Much is based on hear say and negative publicity.

Moreover, we offer no calorie limits on any plan. There are no 500 calorie per day plans. No plan is 100% fat free. We do allow the individual to use common sense when adding healthy fats and we term this as “just enough fat to make it work”. We do not promote starvation of any kind and we never will. We encourage members to stick within the plan guidelines and further, we encourage them to add extra protein and possibly extra salads if they are still hungry or not feeling well.

Kimkins is a fraud

UPDATE: October 29th, 2024, Judge Rick Brown found Kimkins Diet founder Heidi Diaz guilty of fraud and false advertising.

DietsInReview.com does not recommend the Kimkins diet program. Kimkins has completely misrepresented itself and the information it presents to customers, and in doing so, has endangered the lives of many of those people.

Kimkins broke into the diet scene in 2000 selling itself as the one sure thing to end your dieting chaos. She said she had been an obese 300 pounds and like so many others, struggled to find a diet that worked for her. So she created her own solution- a low-carb/low-calorie diet that she says works incredibly fast. Not only would Kimkins help you lose weight quickly (198 pounds in one year in her case), but the plan would set you up for success for life. Kimkins also excitedly promotes that you won’t have to do a single stretch, sprint or sit-up as exercise isn’t necessary to achieve these amazing results.

Unfortunately, none of it is true. Kimkins is being investigated for fraud after many customers became seriously ill. Kimkins is an excruciatingly low-calorie diet and none of the information presented as fact as any medical or scientific support. Kimmer herself does not have a nutritional background and her advice is strictly from what appears to be fake experiences.
