Mike Morelli’s Biggest Loser Recap – 8.6

So, first things first. Coach Mo is gone, Tracey stayed in the game. The contestants were shocked. After they get a hold of themselves, it’s straight into a challenge. This challenge had the teams digging up crates to get a prize that the ever-so-clever Alison Sweeney kept a secret. The blue team ends up being the better archaeologists, or moles, or whatever else that digs, and wins. The prize is a week’s trip home. For either team. The blue team makes the smart decision and sends the black team home, hoping for some massive stumbles.

biggest loser challengeThe blue team stays on the ranch and has some generally awesome workouts courtesy of Bob, while the black team is faced with the lonely, frightening world called reality. We see a lot of different things from these contestants. Daniel finally realizes that he is becoming a thinner, healthier person, and is making that mental change. Dina is balancing being a mother with exercising and making it a part of a daily routine.

Meanwhile, Amanda is still getting accustomed to being in a gym. This actually happens to a lot of people. I know that if I don’t go to the gym with plan, I’ll get lost. It’s a good thing that she is finding out these hardships early on so that when she does go home she can kick some butt.

Shay begins to realize that just because she is changing, the people around her will not necessarily do so as well. Again, something everyone has to deal with when losing weight at home. We all have to determine who enables us, and who helps us.

To me the biggest story at home is Danny. He is 100% focused and doesn’t seem to let anything get in his way of BL. He seems very diligent about his exercise and food journals and will do amazing in the game and onward. Flash-forward to the ranch. Jillian is giving another merciless beating to Daniel. She finally breaks him down and he is really starting to realize that he is changing. It’s great to see contestants ‘click’ and Daniel is a long time coming.

At the weigh-in, the blue team’s strategy pays off and they barely edge out the black team (and some stellar performances). Danny lost 15 pounds and is kicking butt; Amanda lost 5, proving to herself that she can do this at home; Daniel, although having a great mental week, didn’t have a great week, losing no weight. He seems to be on some crazy yo-yo that I’d be willing to bet doesn’t end well, unfortunately. Dina is the unfortunate one, being sent home by her black team, saving Daniel. Rudy is at 84 pounds lost and has one week to break Dane’s record of weight loss. I hope he does it, but that will have to wait until next week… Until next time BLers.

Another great week, thanks for the recap Mike :)

This week's challenge was intense and seemed really exhausting. It looked easy but when they got into it you can tell it's one of the toughest challenges yet.

Blue team trained their butts off but still had poor numbers except for Rudy, who saved the day with huge loss. Rudy is on fire.

Black team going back home really was an eye-opener for the whole team. We got to see the disgusted looks on the contestants faces when they saw the kind of food they used to blindly eat without a second thought.

Shay realizing that her weight loss journey is not going to immediately convince everyone to stop eating crappy was eye-opening but that is reality. She lost a lot of weight but she still is a really big girl, and I don't think she's going to convince her family to change until she starts getting thinner than her hubby. I just hope her relationship lasts, her stepkids seem to really love her, but with any huge life changes relationships can change and people can grow apart.

It was enlightening to see Dan finally come to grips with what has been bogging him down. It took two seasons to start seeing that maybe he could really not be the "fat kid" anymore and that he needed his mother's love and support rather than her acceptance of his's not that she didn't love him because he was fat, but that she cared about his health and didn't want him to be obese because she cares about what is best for him. I think the transition he made is really huge. This is why he needed a second chance on the ranch. I just hope he can release all the emotions because whatever he was going through this week caused him to retain weight.

I'm really impressed with Danny. Something clicked in him this week and he has finally "got it" he is back home but he is more focused than ever before. Instead of eating out with everyone he stays home and cooks what looked like an incredibly tasty healthy meal for his family. His wife was just glowing at the new man her husband has become. And his attention to detail and commitment to the process was rewarded graciously on the scale. Jill was just shocked and overjoyed that he did such a great job. I think he has a serious chance of winning this thing and that him and Rudy could very well make it to the finale.

Finally Dina's story was really touching. I loved how connected she was to her son, and he seemed really supportive of her. It is hard for a kid that age to sit around at a gym while mom works out for hours a day. But he saw it as important to his mom, and he didn't become a burden on her. So although it sucked to see her go home, it seems that she has found the balance of being a mother and keeping up with her fitness goals. She looked smoking hot in her after video, and I hope she keeps it up.

I like Dan and Dina a lot, so it sucked that they were on the chopping block. I'd have rather seen Amanda go home; she is okay but I just don't feel very connected to her story. If I had been there I'd have voted off Dan, not because I didn't like him, but because he has been at the ranch longer than anyone else. Although with his breakthroughs this week, he does apparently still need to be there.

Great episode. I was very proud of Amanda and Danny and I was also very happy that Daniel did not get sent home. He needs to be there longer and obviously from Dina's "where they are now" clip, she's doing great at home! Great recap Mike <33
