Fall 2024 Tasty Movie Sneak Preview

I’m giddy. It’s time. The fall movie season is officially in full swing. In addition to caramel apples, pumpkin anything and apple cider mixed with Butterscotch Schnapps, movie-going is my favorite part of the season. To get you excited for all those new fall flicks, I’ve gathered up a few that I’m looking forward to and then paired them with healthy “themed” recipes you can eat afterward while you discuss the plot and shake off your buttery popcorn/candy hangover. Remember, no texting, talking or putting your feet on the seats in front of you. You ready? Raise the curtain. Let’s do this!

Fall 2024 Tasty Movie Sneak Preview

Hunger Games

Hunger Games – Catching Fire

In the second installment of the series, based on the books by Suzanne Collins, Katniss and Peeta find themselves in trouble with the Capitol again when the districts of Panem begin to rebel. Before they go back to the arena for another battle, TO THE DEATH, they can’t resist the decadent and often outlandish food prepared by eclectic Capitol chefs.

Tomato and Goat Cheese Tart

The “colorful” citizens of District One sure do love their Goat Cheese Tarts but the odds are definitely in your favor that these are better for you. A simple savory dish that can be served for brunch, lunch or dinner.

Don Jon Movie

Don Jon

In his directorial debut, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a New Jersey guido who is devoted to his family, church and friends. When he meets Barbara, played by Scarlett Johansson, he thinks she might be the one, but will he give up his porn addiction to be the Prince Charming she’s looking for? Tony Danza and Glenne Headly play Don’s raucous parents who turn Sunday dinner into the Jersey Inquisition.

Chicken Caesar Salad

Every Sunday after church, Don sits down with his family for a big meal that typically ends in an even bigger fight. Maybe they should be eating our chicken ceasar salad. When your  mouth is full of spring greens, kale, Greek yogurt and freshly shaved parmesan, you won’t be shouting. Talking with your mouth full is just bad table manners.

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2

Quirky scientist, Flint Lockwood, and pals, find themselves trapped in a jungle inhabited by seemingly surly food-animal hybrids, “Food-i-mals” that were inadvertently created by the invention from the first Meatballs movie. What is sweet “Berry” the squeaking strawberry trying to tell Flint, and will he find out in time to stop his new boss and mentor from destroying them all?

Sweet and Spicy English Cucumber Pickles

In the movie, Flint’s dad teaches a pack of pickles how to fish. The rowdy crew behave like children but his fatherly patience helps keep them in line while casting lines. We’re paying homage to those delightful critters by offering up a sweet and spicy snack. These pickles are low on effort and big on taste. Serve immediately or marinate longer for more flavor.

The LunchBox

The LunchBox

Showing in limited release in the United States, the film is set in Mumbai, India. A lonely wife seeking her husband’s attention makes a delicious home-cooked meal and gives it to the Dabbawalas (lunchbox delivery service). It’s mistakenly given to an equally lonely widower and the two begin to exchange notes, creating a complicated, yet ultimately hopeful relationship. The movie looks interesting and the trailer had me salivating.

Indian Chicken Salad Pockets

In the movie, Saajan Fernandes waits for the Dabbwalas to bring his dabba (stacked metal tins) for lunch. We think he’d love our Indian Chicken Salad Pockets.  Curry, lime and red onion make this sandwich light but still zippy enough to make even poor Saajan crack a satiated smile.

labor day collage

Labor Day

Single mom, Adele, played by Kate Winslet, must’ve been wearing her bad-idea-jeans on the day she agreed to give a bleeding stranger a ride. The mystery man named Frank, played by Josh Brolin, has escaped from prison where he was serving time for murder. Adele and her young son allow Frank into their lives where he simultaneously becomes caretaker and captor.

 Top-Only Real Blueberry Pie

In one memorable Labor Day scene, Adele makes a peach pie from scratch following Frank’s  innuendo-laden instructions. The result is a steamy, “I do declare,” moment. If you want to get steamy with your kitchen sweetie, may we suggest our Top-Only Real Blueberry Pie with a surprise lemon twist and a ground-walnut crust. Handcuffs and leg shackles optional.

Delivery Man Movie Poster

Delivery Man

In his new film, Vince Vaughn plays a man who just found he’s become a father, 533 times. The oopsie occurred at a fertility clinic where Vaughn’s character provided a sample years earlier. Now, 142 of daddy’s unexpected darlings have banded together to file a lawsuit which will reveal his identity. The unattached underachiever decides to become their guardian angel, of sorts. Can he find purpose for his life with this mission and will the kids ever find out the truth? Pssst, I’m guessing yes on both. However predictable Delivery Man may be I’ll still go see this one because I adore that big handsome lug.

Jalapeno Cheddar Burger Bite Kabobs

Vince Vaughn’s character drives the delivery truck for his family’s meat market. Grab a cut of the leanest beef you can find and nestle these fun little meatball kabobs onto a stick with mini bella mushrooms, peppers and cheddar. Perfect for a family gathering, no matter what size your family is.

Saving Mr. Banks Caramel Apples

Saving Mr. Banks

In the 1960s, Walt Disney approached author, P L Travers about turning her novel, Mary Poppins, into a ginormous Disney film. Saving Mr. Banks is the history behind the making of this beloved children’s movie. Tom Hanks plays the patient Mr. Disney while Emma Thompson is perfect and prim, even while she’s driving creators mad with her multitude of edits and changes to the script.

Caramel Apples

Mary Poppins Trivia Time! Who remembers what Michael and Jane are eating while Mary is having her picture taken at the horse race? Tick-tick-tick. . . CARAMEL APPLES! They’re also a fall staple. This year, don’t fall prey to the quickie store-bought caramels that include high fructose corn syrup and way too many preservatives. Check out our simple caramel sauce recipe that’s better for you, yet still creamy and delicious. Practically perfect in e-ve-ry way!
