Fresh fruits and veggies are probably the most healthy things you can snack on, but sometimes only a carbohydrate crunch will really satisfy your craving. We’ve recently been munching on LesserEvil snacks, and we have to say, they’re pretty yummy. But are they really that much better for someone trying to eat a healthy diet?

Compared to normal snack food, the LesserEvil snacks live up to their name. Both the Black & White Kettle Corn (coco and caramel) and the Classic Kettle Corn have 110 calories per one-cup serving. The Black & White Corn has 15 grams of sugar per severing, while the classic has 14 grams of sugar. Compare that to Jay’s Caramel Corn, which has 138 calories per serving. This may seem like only a moderate amout more, but it also contains 21.3 grams of sugar. Compared with a cup of Cracker Jack’s (a half cup is considered a serving), the LesserEvil has 130 calories less.

For something savory, LesserEvil also makes Potato Krinkle Sticks and Veggie Krinkle Sticks. A one-ounce serving of Original Ruffles, which is only about 10 chips, has 160 calories and 10 grams of fat. Both flavors of Krinkle sticks are 110 calories per ounce-sized serving, which comes to a more-than satisfying 40 sticks, as shown here. We bet you’ll be happy with 20. They are only have 2.5 grams of fat. Plus, the veggie sticks have vitamin C and whole grains. That’s a lot more nutritional value than your average potato chip.

With all foods, snacks or otherwise, portion control is crucial to staying on a diet. Just because LesserEvil snacks are a healthier option, that doesn’t mean it’s OK to chow down on an entire bag in one sitting.
