We certainly cannot get enough of Melissa McCarthy. Besides being one of the funniest people currently making movies and television, McCarthy has been nominated for multiple awards (Emmy and Oscar!) and she is downright lovable.
But Shape.com recently reported that McCarthy has had a difficult time finding dressed for red carpet events due to her not being a standard Hollywood dress size. Unfortunately, as most of us are aware, there is not a lot of variety in A-list celebrity shapes and sizes which is an incredibly disappointing realization in 2014. Because she’s not a size 0, finding good dresses is an issue, despite being a big-name in Hollywood.
McCarthy told another magazine about her experience getting dressed for the Oscars, stating that she could not find anyone to make a dress for her.
“I asked five or six designers—very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people—and they all said no.”
Luckily, McCarthy has taken that disturbing denial and opted to make it easier for women in the future. Pairing up with her friend, fashion designer Daniella Pearl, who created McCarthy’s 2011 Emmy look, the duo will release a plus-size line of fashion dresses in the near future. The line will be called, appropriately, Pearl.
Hopefully, McCarthy’s vision will inspire more designers to realize that bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and all women deserve to feel as gorgeous as we truly are.
You go, Melissa!
