Hi Dooa! My name is Kinsey and I’m the nutritionist for dietsinreview.com. I want to help guide you and help you figure out nutrition while being pregnant. First off, it is very important that you find and set regular appointments with an OB/GYN physician. This physician will help provide you with information, vitamins, and give you with answers to your questions. That’s what I suggest you do first, if you haven’t already done so.

In terms providing you with specific and individualized nutrition information during your pregnancy, it really depends on where you are now…if you’re underweight, at a normal healthy weight, or if you’re overweight. Depending on your current nutrition/eating habits and weight status will directly influence your pregnancy nutrition and calorie needs. I can give you some general information. It is recommended that you avoid or limit the amount of fish you eat. Fish has mercury (amount of mercury varies depending on the specific fish), which in large amounts can have detrimental effects on fetal development. Another recommendation is to eat enough foods containing folate/folic acid, which is really important for proper cell development. You really want to practice healthy nutrition choices. Choose whole grain, limit fats/choose healthy fats, eat plenty of fruits and veggies, avoid alcohol, etc. It is important to supply your body with nutrients to support your baby’s growth and development! Try to pick nutrient-dense foods to guarantee adequate nutrient intake without overdoing on calories!

Check out this website…it’s the International Food Information Council and provides you with some good pregnancy nutrition information. http://www.ific.org/publications/brochures/pregnancybroch.cfm

Please meet with a doctor is you haven’t already done so. Your physician can hook you up with a Registered Dietitian in your area that can provide you with specific nutrition goals!
