Lifetime’s Cook Yourself Thin is a New Healthy Cooking Show

lifetime-cook-yourself-thin

Don’t miss our interview with co-host Allison Fishman.

Are you wondering if there is a healthier and less caloric way to whip up your favorite dishes like pasta carbonara and fudge brownies? Cook Yourself Thin is Lifetime’s newest cooking show, helping you give your favorite meals a healthier and lower-calorie makeover. The series, which starts airing on May 4 at 5 p.m. EST, features three cooking experts, Harry Eastwood, Allison Fishman, and Candace Kumai, who incorporate their ingenious and savvy cooking techniques to make indulgent dishes tasting as indulgent as they were meant to be but with significantly less calories and fat. (Now showing at 8 a.m. EST weekdays.)

cook-yourself-thin-cookbookBased upon the super popular cookbook and British series of the same name, during each half-hour episode of Cook Yourself Thin, you’ll learn how to swap calorie-heavy ingredients for leaner and healthier additions. For instance, the three cooking experts will show you how to turn a traditional 1,300 calorie steak and potato dinner into a less than 400 calorie meal, or you’ll learn how to skim 400 calories off of a muffin.

Each episode chronicles one cooking novice who wants to lose weight, but still savor sumptuous meals.  With step-by-step cooking instructions, their favorite meals get a skinny makeover and you get to learn secret and clever ways to slim down meals and your waist. Then after six weeks of Cook Yourself Thin, each participant is revisited at their home to see how their new culinary skills are keeping their tummies satisfied and flat.

Similar to newer cookbooks like Hungry Girl’s 200 Under 200 and Naturally Thin, more and more people are desperate to find creative ways to eat the foods they love and lose weight or maintain their healthy weight. Cook Yourself Thin is just another example that lets you have your cupcake and eat it too -  gooey frosting and all!

Try Cook Yourself Thin’s Frosted Vanilla Cupcake or Pumpkin Spice Cookie recipes.

I tried the banana bread recipe. It is horrible. So salty I could not stand it. Why the salt? I also tried the mac. and cheese and don't like it. Why the worcestershire?
I am going to try the Red Velvet Cake and see about it.
I was going to get the cookbook but if this recipe is bad I will not and will tell others of my experience.
I love the show. The idea. But the recipes are going to have to be good for me to watch your show.

I just found your show 2 weeks ago. I love it! I'm a radio health show host on the #1 Gospel station in my market. I would like to partner with your show and cookbook. On my radio show, I will encourage people to watch your show and order the cookbook. What do I want -- cookbooks to give away on my radio show and an opportunity to visit you on the set to see you do your show live. We will have a health fair in February for women only. I would like for you to consider being with us! We will raise money for children with heart disease. My telephone # is:

You can get the recipes on Lifetime. On the Cook Yourself Thin page, just click on “Recipes.” There you will find all of the recipes from past shows.

Cook Yourself Thin, the cookbook can be purchased at Amazon, Barnes & Noble or your local bookstore.

Have fun cooking yourself thin! And keep us all posted on what you thought of the recipes once you’ve made and sampled them.

LOved the show! I liked that the meals are edible – no cardboard or fake food with no flavor. ALSO, if you at least stick to the food choices of the recipes I can lose a dress size. Some of the women didn’t even exercise. Most of us women, we’re not sedentary its just the choices we make.
Thank you!!!

Cook Yourself Thin, the cookbook can be purchased at Amazon.com for about $12, not including shipping and handling charges. You can also check with your local Barnes and Noble or Borders bookstore to see if they have any copies in stock or if they can order you a copy.

The Cook Yourself Thin show on Lifetime has moved time slots from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. (ET/CMT/PT/MT). The Lifetime website has not given any reason as to why the time changed but do know that you can still learn all of the Cook Yourself Thin tricks and secrets but you may just have to rearrange your schedule to watch them.

The full episodes are also available online

Why on earth would you put this great show on so early in the morning….or at least run it again in the late afternoon or early evening…so us working people get a chance to see it…I got to see the first few days before it was changed and miss it!..

I haven’t been able to watch the show at it’s regular time(s)…Not home from work. But I have been able to watch all of the shows via On Demand thru my cable company. The cookbook is great! Amazon has the best pricing. None of the local bookstores had it instock.

Has this show been cancelled? I loved it and hated the early morning time slot. I liked it better in the afternoon because after eating properly all day it motivated me to continue.

I have had the book and been cooking the recipes for almost a month. I think it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Not only is the food amazing, but my daughter and I love cooking the food together versus ordering take out. I would love to find more recipes that are similar to these.
