Healthiest Menu Choices at Papa Murphy’s

I’m not a fast-food connoisseur by any means, but I love to indulge in the occasional slice of pizza. When I don’t have time to make my own pizza at home, one of my favorite things to do is call in an order to Papa Murphy’s and, as their slogan goes, “take and bake!” For me, the ingredients just seem fresher, and they have more topping options for a veggie-lover like me than other pizza chains do. Plus, it’s fun to cook it at home.

But, really, how healthy is the food at Papa Murphy’s? Do the meals meet our registered dietitian Rebecca Scritchfield’s healthy guidelines of having less than 500 calories and less than 500 milligrams of sodium, according to the the new daily sodium recommendations? We looked at the menu, and found the healthiest options based on that criteria. Below are the results!

Healthiest Meals at Papa Murphy’s

1. Have a slice of a large deLITE Thin Crust Pizza (1/10 of the pizza). I love that Papa Murphy’s has a light line just for people watching their waistlines! With 21 varieties of toppings, this thinner crust pizza gives you tons of flavor options to choose from. While any one slice of any variety of this crust comes in at 150 to 200 calories a piece, the sodium counts do vary. Most contain less than or just barely more than 500 milligrams a of sodium in one slice, but choose Veggie, Hawaiian, Herb Chicken Mediterranean, Gourmet Veggie, Chicken Pesto, Chicken Barbeque or Cheese to keep that sodium counter under 400 milligrams. Pair your slice of pizza with a piece of fruit or some raw veggies from home, and you have a filling and nutritious meal!

2. Have half a salad without the dressing and croutons. Papa Murphy’s also has a variety of salads to choose from. Have half of any salad without the dressing and croutons for less than 200 calories and 500 milligrams of sodium. You can choose from the Caesar Salad, Chicken Caesar Salad, Club Salad, Garden Salad or Italian Salad. Bring some low-sodium dressing  from home or drizzle with a little olive oil and red wine vinegar, and you have a meal!

What I love about Papa Murphy’s is that there are so many different varieties of salads and light pizzas to choose from!
