How far we have come, my fellow Dancing With the Stars fans. Right? Last night was the premiere of Season 18 of the popular dance show, and I can hardly believe it! Here’s a short summary of all that happened, in case you missed it:
Last night, we met the couples. If you haven’t seen the show previously, the professional dancers (who are actually celebrities themselves, at this point) are paired with an actor, actress, athlete, Olympian, or scientist, in this season’s case, then dance for votes each week.
The show is wildly entertaining because sometimes these celebrities have no dance skills whatsoever, yet they truly work their way up to being professionals. You get to see the performances as well as the behind-the-scenes outtakes, and many a celebrity has gotten in mean shape from all that dancing.
This season, our celebrity dancers include Danica McKellar, Candace Cameron Bure, Drew Carey, Diana Nyad, Cody Simpson, NeNe Leakes, Meryl Davis, Charlie White, Amy Purdy, Sean Avery, James Maslow, and Billy Dee Williams.
Of course, the winner of Season 1 of DWTS was Kelly Monaco, star of General Hospital. She only had five other celebrity competitors. These days, there are twelve couples to dance up against—er, against. The show has gained in popularity which naturally leads to higher celebrity status.
Last night was fantastic. This season, the show has switched up a few things, including their host. Host Brooke Burke-Charvet is gone and Erin Andrews has taken her place alongside Tom Bergeron. Besides the hosts, the orchestra also has a new conductor, in an attempt to jazz up the music a bit.
Though all of the dancers impressed, two couples led the way in points: Cameron-Bure with her partner Mark Ballas earned 25 points from the judges; White, with his partner Sharna Burgess, were awarded 27 points. Of course, the votes are what matter the most, so be sure to vote for your favorite couple!
Here at Diets in Review, we will be following Cameron-Bure throughout her journey as she blogs her way to the top spot! (Hopefully!)
