Biggest Loser Season 9 Week 10 Recap with Amanda Arlauskas

One of the biggest challenges these contestants will face will come when they must return home, and this week presented a sneak preview of that. Alison surprises each with an unexpected week-long visit home. As most are excited, they have to keep in mind that it is not a vacation, it is merely time away from the ranch where they must continue on their strict diet and exercise regimens mixed in with family, friends, and other distractions.

As each contestant returns home, they are greeted with a large box containing a spin bike and a small box containing cupcakes, as well as a video from Alison. She tells each contestant that they will be biking a 26.2 mile marathon on the spin bike, just as they did in their first moments on the ranch in week one, in front of their family and friends. Along with the challenge is a temptation to eat a cupcake worth 100 calories in order to add time to another contestant’s finishing time. More than 30 cupcakes were consumed and they were primarily “awarded” to Sam, Stephanie, and Lance. The winner of the challenge will win $10,000. Although Sam Poueu finishes the marathon first, he is punished with time accrued by cupcakes and is pushed in to last place, losing to his cousin Koli Palu.

While at home, we also see the contestants face greater temptations than a box of cupcakes. Taking on the real world for their first time in nearly three months, they come face-to-face with reconciling their old lives with their new. Sam wakes to find his mom preparing a breakfast of biscuits and gravy, bacon and eggs; he politely passes up the high calorie breakfast. Ashley visits her favorite bar with girlfriends and orders an ahi steak instead of her usual potato skins and beer. Andrea enjoys a night of bowling with friends and passes over the her usual choice of pizza, but struggles to find anything on the menu that suits her diet. While attending karaoke night with friends, Daris chose to drink water while his friends enjoyed the beers. It was proof-positive that their hard work was paying off!

The players return to the ranch where Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels are anticipating their arrival. A last chance workout begins where the trainers try to burn as many calories as possible in the last workout before the weigh-in. At the weigh-in, the blue team weighs first finishing with a combined total of 45 pounds, or 2.58% lost. The black team is up next and amazes everyone with 39 pounds, or 3.86% lost. It’s been a long time coming but a victory that was sought after by the black team.

With blue having to send someone home, Lance Morgan is the unfortunate contestant who is eliminated from the game.
