Heaviest Contestants Ever – Biggest Loser Premiere Recap

So a new season of The Biggest Loser… season nine seems to truly be the largest group yet! We meet the contestants who have all weighed in at home in front of their families, friends, neighbors, communities, and complete strangers! There are five contestants weighing in at more than 400 pounds, and one contestant weighing in at 526 pounds, Michael Ventrella.

As each contestant tells us about themselves, you hear similar stories to previous seasons. The most common story being that it’s hard being overweight, not having a significant other, and just wanting love and happiness.

michael and mariaTime for the first challenge. The contestants haven’t even been in the house yet, met the trainers, or had their first workout when they stumble upon Alison Sweeney. She tells them that each team has to ride a combined 26.2 miles on a stationary bike, the distance of a marathon. The two teams that come in last will be immediately sent home. Miggy and Migdaila from the green team win, giving them immunity.

Unfortunately for the blue team and the yellow team, they have to take their already packed bags and head home. But then there’s a twist! Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper tell each team that in 30 days they will return to face off. The team that loses a higher percentage of weight loss will be back in the competition!

Last chance workout is brutal but always well worth it! You see the players give everything they have in order to beat the scale at their first weigh-in. The weigh-in begins and we see amazing numbers, ranging from the teens, 20s, even 34 pounds! Absolutely unbelievable. Unfortunately the brown team falls below the yellow line. Each tries to give up their space for the other, but in the end James is voted off in hopes that he can heal his injured knee at home, and let twin brother John continue competing to win at the ranch.

Hey Amanda, nice to see you here doing the recaps :)

This looks to be an incredible year.

When I heard about that first challenge I had an idea that the teams that got sent home would have a second chance to return.

Wow the people on this season are really big...I'm surprised that Michael is able to walk, let alone work out. The only people I've ever known who were that overweight were bedridden or wheelchair bound. He looks to be a strong competitor because he has so much weight to lose and he had impressive numbers this week.

I liked how Daris mom got all angry and focused. She looks to be a real machine.

The Tongan guys will go far also.

Green team did fantastic winning that challenge.

All in all I don't have any favorites yet for the season but I'm sure a few more episodes and I will.

I thought the elimination went well, it made sense that the brother who had time off from work and was unable to participate fully went home. Perhaps they can start developing their own personalities.

I do have to say that I'm happy nobody got carted off to the hospital this season. I do think the show pushes the edge when it comes to how sick of contestants they'll bring in.

I still wish % of weight loss was not the only factor in winning; if you have more body fat to start out with you have an advantage when it gets later in the season. So if you're 200 lbs overweight you can win much easier than if you're 100 lbs overweight and I'm not sure that is the measurement that should be used for the competition.

I'm really excited for this season of biggest loser and so glad they went back to pairing family members together. There is something so motivating about having that person in your corner cheering you on. I'm also SO happy that Amanda is a part of the team and will give us great recaps and her own personal insight from the show!!
