Learning to Cook Healthy

Challenger Susan Grimes Steinick shares how it’s never too late to start healthy eating and cooking habits, and ways she makes it an easy process even when cooking for one.

I’m a 72 y/o woman who has had seven coronary bypasses, so obviously, I need to cook healthier. I love to cook, but also want the food to taste good. It’s very hard to cook for one, I don’t like leftovers, and most recipes are for bigger amounts. Therefore, I have started to go through the recipes I like that are healthy, and cut them down to serve 2-3. I also bought a silicone steamer, which is wonderful for veggies; a convertible grill that I use for everything from chicken to my 93% lean hamburger. These things not only save time, but control the fat. I ordered the “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Fattening” cookbook and there are lots of good sounding recipes in there that I can’t wait to try.
